AN EARLY CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE MINYAO BOWL, XUANDE/ZHENGTONG (1426-1449) with slightly flared rim and shallow foot ring, on the inside having an underglaze blue flower surrounded by a double circle and Greek key band under the rim, with the outside having a vibrantly painted underglaze blue cloud and orchard decoration and the base and inside of the foot ring being unglazed. 14.5cm diameterAlthough this bowl has suffered damage over the centuries, especially to the foot ring, it is an excellent, rare and early Minyao study piece.A number of hairline cracks. Losses to the foot. Glazing flaws from the kiln.
A RARE KINRANDE BOWL WITH WAN FU YOU TONG MARK, MING (1540-1590) round-sided bowl with a small foot ring, the ‘kinrande’ decoration on a white ground has been lost through time, the shadow of this decoration is still evident due to the overglazed enamels having left an impression in the white glaze, with the inside having an underglaze blue chrysanthemum plant within a double circle and a diaper band under the rim, the base has an underglaze blue four-character ‘wan fu you tong’ mark. 12cm diameter For comparison, see a bowl sold by Christie’s 19 September 2006, Lot 262; a bowl in the Metropolitan Museum collection, accession number 79.2.112; and a bowl in the British Museum, collection reference Franks.482.+This rare mark is translated in ‘Marks On Chinese Ceramics’, Gerald Davison, page 344, No. 2050 as being “May infinite good fortune surround you”
