A Victorian Silver Monteith, by Cornelius Joshua Vander, London, 1898, Retailed by Vander and Hedges, 26 New Bond St. in the Charles II style, tapering and on spreading foot, with lion mask drop-ring handles, the detachable collar with notched and foliage applied rim26.5cm diameter, 16cm high, 50oz 10dwt, 1,571grFully marked near rim and on collar bezel. The rings each marked with lion passant. There is some wear to the mark's marks and the lion passant marks on the rings but in general the marks are legible. Further engraved underneath with retailers name. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points and to the narrow bands on the body which would originally have been more distinctly matted.
