Of British India interest: 19th century Indian Emerald and gold baby's ring given by Ghazi-ud-Din Haidar Shah King of Oudh and placed on the finger of the infant Mordaunt Ricketts (1826-1857) at his Christening in November 1826. Mordaunt was the son of Mordaunt Ricketts Esq (1786-1862) who was the Resident Official of the East India Company at Lucknow. Mordaunt (junior) went on to become a Colonial magistrate and collector in the East India Company and was killed in the Indian Mutiny at the church at Shahjahanpur in 1857. His father returned to England after being accused of corruption and therefore escaped the uprising.Provenance: sold with attached label and thence by family descent Total weight 1.50 grams, the stone approx. 0.30 carats
