China.- Mao Tse-tung. Quotations of Chairman Mao, first complete edition (i.e. third edition) of Mao's final text, variant issue with Lin Biao's endorsement leaf uncorrected, title printed in red and green, portrait of Mao in sepia, two printed slips in pocket at rear as issued (but often lacking), small patch of damp-staining affecting title, half-title and front free endpaper, original red vinyl covers, 12mo, compiled and printed by the Central Intelligence Bureau of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Beijing, August 1965.⁂ The third edition of the Little Red Book and the first printing containing all 33 chapters and the basis for all future reprints and all translations. The original 1964 version had only 30 chapters and comprises 250pp, and the second edition (March 1965) added two more chapters taking the text to 260pp. Thus, this third edition adds the thirty-third chapter for the first time and extends the text to 270pp.. The text error in the calligraphic endorsement by Lin Biao found in all copies of the 1964 first edition was corrected in all subsequent copies (though lacking entirely in the 2nd edition). Nearly all copies of this August 1965 third edition has the endorsement leaf corrected. Curiously, in this copy, the error still occurs. Only the 2014 Grolier Club catalogue (page 49) mentions the existence of this error but indicates it has been noted in only "a few copies" and almost always the endorsement is corrected.
