August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben Das Lied der Deutschen. Melodie nach Joseph Haydn's 'Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, Unsern guten Kaiser Franz!' September 1841. - Erste Ausgabe des historisch bedeutenden Flugblattes, das Hoffmann von Fallersleben 1841 auf Helgoland dichtete. Seit nunmehr 100 Jahren die deutsche Nationalhymne. Das von Hoffmann und Campe verlegte Lied fand nach seiner Veröffentlichung am 1. September 1841 sehr schnell große Verbreitung. Hoffmann von Fallersleben schreibt in seinen Erinnerungen: 'Am 29. Aug. 1841 spaziere ich mit Campe am Strande von Helgoland. Ich habe ein Lied gemacht, das kostet aber 4 Louisdor .. Ich lese ihm Deutschland, Deutschland ueber Alles vor und noch ehe ich damit zu Ende bin, legt er mir die 4 Louisdor auf meine Brieftasche .. Am 4. Sept. bringt mir Campe das Lied der Deutschen mit der Haydn'schen Melodie'. Das Lied gewann große Popularität. Vor nun 100 Jahren erhob der Reichspräsident Ebert das Lied zur deutschen Nationalhymne. Zum ersten Mal in der Öffentlichkeit erklang das Lied der Deutschen am 5.Oktober 1841 vor Streit's Hotel auf dem Hamburger Jungfernstieg bei einem Fackelzug zu Ehren des badischen Liberalen Professor Carl Theodor Welcker, der als Vorkämpfer der deutschen Einheitsbewegung aus Baden fliehen mußte. Nach längerem Ringen um eine Nationalhymne verfügte Bundespräsident Theodor Heuß 1952 schließlich, daß künftig die 3. Strophe des Lieds der Deutschen als Nationalhymne gesungen werden sollte. Das Faltblatt enthält eine Titelseite, rückseitig blanco, Seite 3 mit Text und Noten der ersten Strophe, Seite 4 mit Notenende und den beiden folgenden Strophen. Vollständige Folge mit 1 Porträt und 9 bezeichneten Radierungen, Druck auf unbeschnittenen Bütten von A. Salmon, editiert von A. Lemerre, Paris. 'Abschließend kommen wir noch einmal auf die in den achtziger Jahren entstandenen Folge Les Diaboliques zurück. Heute erscheint sie nicht mehr diabolisch, aber in ihrer Zeit und auf eine jüngere Generation war sie von großer Wirkung. Wir konnten schon früher auf motivische Anregung von Rops in Munchs Graphik verweisen und wollen hier auf ein gleiches bei Klimt aufmerksam machen. Die Figur von Le Rideau cramoisi aus Les Diaboliques hat wohl für Klimts Zeichnung Fischblut eine wichtige Anregung gegeben und wirkt weiterhin auch noch in dessen Fakultät Die Medizin nach. Die historischen Fakten sprechen jedenfalls nicht dagegen: 1894 erhielt Klimt den Auftrag, 1895 stellt Rops in Wien aus, 1896 legt Klimt die Vorlage der Programmentwürfe für die Fakultätbilder vor, die dann auf soviel Widerstand stoßen sollten' (O. On offer from a diligent 34-year ownership, this highly-original, unrestored example has covered a fully documented 74,000 miles.The Giorgetto Giugiaro-styled ‘Esprit’ was Colin Chapman's first serious attempt at building a supercar capable of taking on the likes of Porsche and Ferrari and was an early example of Giugiaro's polygonal 'folded paper' designs. First unveiled as a concept car at the Turin Motor Show in 1972, it would be another four years before customers took delivery of the first cars, however slow initial sales received a considerable publicity boost with the car's underwater exploits in the 1977 James Bond film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’.The Turbo version was first seen in the distinctively liveried, 1980s 'Essex Esprit', a special-edition model named for its association with Essex Petroleum, a major sponsor of the Lotus F1 team at the time. Its engine, known as the ‘Type 910’, retained the 2.2-litre capacity of the naturally aspirated car but utilised a dry-sump arrangement and generated some 210bhp. 1981 saw the debut of Esprit Series 3 and, at that point, the Turbo became a regular production car powered by a wet-sump 2.2-litre 'Type 912' engine which generated similar power and torque figures to its dry-sump predecessor. The interior trim was revised which, when combined with changes to the body moulds, resulted in more headroom and an enlarged footwell. The Turbo Esprit retained the aerodynamic body kit of the Essex cars and featured prominent 'Turbo Esprit' decals on the nose and sides, plus bespoke 15'' BBS alloy wheels.Although it looked every inch the futuristic Italian-styled supercar both inside and out, the Esprit remained true to Lotus' philosophy of building lightweight cars with small-capacity engines and motorsport-inspired handling and the Turbo versions of the S3 are particularly sought after today.The car presented here is a 1985 Lotus Esprit Turbo (Series 3) which has been owned and loved by our vendor since 1989. Quite remarkable – and the car is too. With a fully verifiable 74,000 miles, this car is in exceptional mechanical health, unrestored and the recipient of huge servicing expenditure over its entire lifetime and is still accompanied by its original book pack, service/maintenance booklets and auxiliary Lotus leaflets (see images).It was supplied new on the 26th September 1985 through Mann Egerton & Co. Ltd. of 14 Berkeley Street, London and, according to the huge accompanying history file, the original owner was a Mr D.H Brierton of Berkshire, who was apparently a friend of Colin Chapman and who requested that his new Lotus to be supplied without the ‘1980s flamboyant ‘Turbo’ decals and simply presented in its striking Arctic White paintwork.Under this original ownership (1985-1988) it was routinely serviced back at Lotus Cars Service Department and/or Mann Egerton, up to 25,500 miles. The car then passed quite quickly through two more London-based owners, who continued the servicing relationship with Mann Egerton. Our vendor then acquired the Lotus in April 1989 as a company car (later buying off his company as his own in the October). This was a perfect match; he loved it and went onto cherish it until now. The history file tells a story of absolute devotion to ensure a car is kept as well as possible. In late 1989 and at 41,841 miles, he employed the expert services of Peter Day of Daytune in Cambridge, the Lotus-appointed classic dealer and servicing specialists. Daytune, and latterly just Peter Day, would look after this car for the next 25 years, and when this was no longer possible, ‘Moorland Jones’, another Lotus specialist, took over the duties before ‘GST Performance’ of Newmarket, run by expert Gerald Turner (formally of Day Tune), picked up the mantle. You get the idea – dedication. The old-fashioned servicing (and service) lavished on this car have been extraordinary, a proper and genuine trust built up over decades - it would often just get collected by the specialists, receive whatever attention was required, and then get taken back to the vendor’s underground garage in Central London. Gerald Turner of GST Performance, an old-school Lotus engineer in every good way, described to our vendor this car as ‘one of the best’ he’s known, with all the suspension componentry still being all-original Lotus.Some of the highlights of this servicing include, in 2001, at 68,000 miles, a complete (precautionary) engine rebuild done by Peter Day, costing £11,180.72 and in December 2022, at 73,769 miles, a full service (including cambelt and all auxiliary items) and four  new tyres costing £5,611.99.If originality, mechanical health and a dedication to maintenance are factors you look for in a classic sports car - and why not -  this remarkable Lotus warrants very close inspection and is ready to be enjoyed by its next loyal owner. Fresh to market from its single private owner, this highly collectable Focus RS500 is one of just 500 limited examples manufactured with just 110 in right-hand drive.The Ford Focus RS500 made its global debut at the Leipzig Motor Show on 9th April 2010 and marked the final swansong for production of the remarkable, second generation, Focus RS. The new and more powerful, limited-edition Focus RS500 model was launched as the ultimate performance Ford to provide the definitive driving experience for serious performance car enthusiasts. With an odometer reading of a mere 24,558 miles this car comes from near 15-year ownership and is supplied with the original Ralliart service book showing only main dealer stamps.The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was launched by Ralliart, Mitsubishi's rally car division, for the 1993 season and literally evolved over the years into one of the most successful rally cars of its era. The Evolution VI was introduced in 1999 and Tommi Mäkinen won the Monte Carlo Rally on the car's debut followed by a further win in the next round in Sweden. More success followed with wins in New Zealand and San Remo to achieve a, then, record fourth consecutive drivers' title. The Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition (TME) was launched to commemorate, and cash in, on this success and some 5,000 TME cars were produced. However, such was the UK demand for a more potent Evo VI, that a new limited-production variant was announced in 1999, and was titled the 'eXtreme'.Launched at the London Motor Show in October 1999, just 26 Extreme editions were officially produced by Ralliart UK, and each cost £41,995. The new model boasted 340bhp and 303lb/ft of torque and nailed the 0-60 sprint in just four seconds with 100mph arriving just six seconds later. The highly efficient suspension set up of the EVO VI, utilising MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear, was retained and the car sat 28mm lower at the front and 14mm at the rear. It sported additional front and rear spoilers and lowered side sills, whilst eXtreme decals completed the look.Manufactured in 1999, and set aside for its extreme transition, this car appears to have been first registered to the Mitsubishi Motors’ UK distribution arm, the Colt Car Company Ltd., on 27th September 2000. Number 16 of the 75 right-hand cars destined for the UK and accompanied by a comprehensive service history. Offered without reserve.Back in the late 1990s, fresh under Ferrari ownership, the rejuvenated Italian marque, Maserati was ready to take on its rivals. Its latest weapon of choice was the 3200 GT. Designed by Italdesign, the car didn't just make it to Evo Magazine's inaugural cover, it soon found its way to the hearts of many car lovers globally. But for those who wanted their brand-new Maserati to be a bit more special, the 3200 GT was also launched in a special edition called the Assetto Corsa. Its limited production run meant that in the early noughties, you could own a Maserati that was not just more driver-focussed but also rarer —just 75 of these right-hand drive cars were officially imported into the UK. Developed from the 3200 GT Automatica, the special edition was limited to 250 units and was available in three colours (Grigio Touring, Nero Carbonio and Rosso Mondiale).‘Assetto Corsa' translates to ‘race set-up’ in Italian and it’s in this area that the main changes have been made to this stylish Maserati. The ‘handling package’ included a lowered suspension set-up – some 15mm lower than the standard car with stiffer springs, a larger diameter anti-roll bar and a variable electronic suspension system which allows the driver to adjust to a number of individual settings. The main feature of the Assetto Corsa package was the adoption of an intelligent electronic damping system allowing automatic adjustment of each individual gas strut depending on the level of vertical and lateral acceleration. Using processing data from a set of sensors, the suspension automatically adjusted up to 14 different settings and the traction control could be turned off.Nothing under the shapely bonnet had changed and the Assetto Corsa continued to utilise the twin-turbocharged version of the 3.2-litre, dual overhead camshaft V8 engine first seen in the Gandini-styled Quattroporte, developing 370bhp at 6,250rpm and mated to a 6-speed gated manual gearbox. The Assetto Corsa also adopted a larger front anti-roll bar, stiffer springs, Pirelli P-Zero Corsa soft-compound tyres, Pagid racing brake pads, bespoke ventilation ducts, a new steering servo with faster response, ergonomic sport pedals, perforated Connolly leather interior, 'Titanium-effect' painted 15-spoke, 18" alloy wheels, an ‘Assetto Corsa’ script on the sill kick panels and red brake calipers.First registered in 2001, this particular Maserati 3200 GT Assetto Corsa, according to the dedicated plaque on the dashboard, is  number 16 of the 75 right-hand cars destined for the UK. Finished in Grigio Touring with a black interior, it’s accompanied by a comprehensive service history and the current MOT is valid until January 2024. It had covered just 47,200 miles at time of viewing, is in very good condition throughout, having been maintained as and when required, but does show some minor wear demonstrating that it has not been wrapped in cotton wool but has been used as intended and is probably all the better for it. Just one owner from new, number 13 of the 75 special edition, UK-only, 395bhp 'wolf in sheep’s clothing' cars culminating from the partnership of two automotive giants. Subaru is no stranger to a partnership. From their pairing with Prodrive - bringing their rally team to incredible success, translating to the fabulous Impreza P1 road car -  to Litchfield with their Type 25, and now more recently when they decided to hold hands with Cosworth to create the limited-edition CS400. The third generation, and somewhat controversial, hatchback Impreza was launched at the New York Motor Show in April 2007, but it wasn’t until 2010 that the CS400 came out. It was the fastest road-going Impreza ever offered in the UK with a recorded 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds, a standing quarter-mile in only 12.75 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph, only half-a-second slower to 60 than the mighty 572bhp Audi RS6.The CS400 featured a Cosworth-built engine with forged pistons, connecting rods and bearings, heavy-duty cylinder heads, uprated head gaskets and studs, a custom exhaust system and an uprated clutch and carbon synchros, resulting in an output of a very impressive 400bhp. From there, they turned their attention to the car's brakes and handling, fitting Eibach springs, specially-tuned Bilstein dampers all-round, improved chassis bushings, AP 355mm ventilated front brakes with six-piston calipers and lightweight Racing Dynamics Pro-Race 18" alloy wheels. Additional features included Zunsport mesh grilles, Xenon headlights and a leather interior with Cosworth-embroidered logos.The WRX STI Cosworth CS400, to give it its full title, was the result of one of the most eagerly anticipated automotive collaborations in recent times and was the first genuine Cosworth-developed road car since the Escorts of 1996. They offered spectacular performance combined with exclusivity as only 75 cars were built and the example offered here, lucky for some, #13 of those 75, is in lovely condition having been cherished by its single owner. Coming from the same vendor who presented the simply outstanding Twin-Sparks Collection in our Race Retro sale in February 2023, the CS400 was their ‘everyday car’ which benefits from a hugely impressive history file. Only three colours were available (Spark Silver, Dark Grey and San Remo Red) and number #13 is finished in Dark Grey. Within the history file is every MOT Certificate showing the car covered between 4-5,000 miles/year, and stacks upon stacks of invoices for servicing and maintenance, primarily from Perkins Subaru of Braintree Essex, and the CS400-specific service book. The collaboration of two industry Titans has resulted in this very special, one of 75 UK-only, limited-edition 395bhp, WRX STi Cosworth CS400.The third-generation Subaru Impreza was launched at the New York Motor Show in April 2007 followed almost three years later by the infamous, limited-edition CS400. The performance of the CS400 was 'headline-grabbing' and it was the fastest road-going model ever offered in the UK with a recorded 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds, a standing quarter-mile in only 12.75 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph, only half a second slower to 60 than the mighty 572bhp Audi RS6.The CS400 featured a Cosworth-built engine with forged pistons, connecting rods and bearings, heavy-duty cylinder heads, uprated head gaskets and studs, a custom exhaust system and an uprated clutch and carbon synchros, resulting in an output of a very impressive 400bhp. From there, they turned their attention to the car's brakes and handling, fitting Eibach springs, specially-tuned Bilstein dampers all-round, improved chassis bushings, AP 355mm ventilated front brakes with six-piston calipers and lightweight Racing Dynamics Pro-Race 18" alloy wheels. Additional features included Zunsport mesh grilles, Xenon headlights and a leather interior with Cosworth-embroidered logos.The WRX STi Cosworth CS400, to give it its full title, was the result of one of the most eagerly anticipated automotive collaborations in recent times and was the first genuine Cosworth-developed road car since the Escorts of 1996. They offered spectacular performance combined with exclusivity as only 75 cars were built and the example offered here, number 30 of those 75, is in amazing condition having covered just 12,296 patently cossetted miles. Only three colours were available (Spark Silver, Dark Grey and San Remo Red) and number 30 is finished in Dark Grey, a rather muted hue for a 400bhp Impreza, but pleasingly matches the colour in the original sales brochure in the history file. Also in the file are all the MOT Certificates and the CS400-specific service book which displays nine stamps. Number 123/320 special edition Imprezas built by Subaru as a tribute to the late, great Richard Burns. In outstanding condition having covered only 23,000 miles.The late Richard Burns was and still is one of the most revered and rightfully lauded British rally drivers having taken 10 World Championship victories and of course the 2001 World Rally Championship in what was a tragically short career. A switch to Subaru in 1999 to drive the WRC Impreza meant that he was finally able to challenge for the title, eventually finishing second to Tommi Makinen in the mighty Evo VI. However, the following year he became the first Englishman to lead the WRC with wins in Portugal, Kenya and Argentina, but again beaten to the top spot by Marcus Gronholm. 2001 was the year of redemption and ultimate success for Burns, despite a tough start to the season, his third-place finish on home soil at the Network Q Rally of Great Britain was enough to secure the championship.In 2007, Subaru UK importers IM Group produced a limited-edition Impreza based on the ‘Hawkeye’ in memory of Richard Burns following his premature passing in 2005, called the RB320, the 320 denoting both the bhp output and the numbered production run. Exclusively available in Obsidian Black Pearl paint, it was a WRX STi with the Prodrive tuning package and a bespoke chassis set-up with Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs and a lower ride height. Externally the RB320 can be identified by a stainless-steel mesh grille, a new front lip spoiler, STi sill plates and bespoke 18” Dark Anthracite alloy wheels. With Richard Burns’ name attached to it, the RB320 had to have the bite to match the bark and, with 316bhp (320ps) on tap, it delivers seriously impressive performance with 0-60mph dispatched in 4.8s and a top speed of nearly 160mph. Combine this with superb handling characteristics and you have a mightily capable car, a worthy challenger to anything when presented with a B-Road.RB320 #123/320 was purchased new on 18th July 2007 and this wonderful low-mileage example presents itself in simply outstanding condition having covered just 23,290 miles. Unlike so many Imprezas, this is a totally standard specification car with no modifications and is supplied with a full-service history including the original purchase invoice of £31,000 which included optional leather and Alcantara seats (£1,276.60) which give a much more premium feel to the interior. Within the history file are various receipts and invoices, as well as all the original booklets in their leather Subaru wallet.
