Despite the poor condition of the bindings, this signed set is rare. Following a dispute between Steele and her publisher, John Trussler, regarding money from the first edition, Steele (on the advice of Counsel) personally signed some of the sets of the second edition in order to deter piracy. In return, on release of the second edition, Trussler accused Steele of piracy herself. Our copy bears her signature in every volume. ESTC T155077, the British Library copy apparently being one of the unsigned sets only (6)
