Dale (James Charles).- Percheron (Achille) Bibliographique Entomologique, 2 vol., first edition, James Charles Dale's copy, half-titles, vol.1 with initials "J.C.D." to top corner in ink, and inscription in ?Dale's hand below, interleaved, the blank interleaves with notes in ink and pencil in more than one hand, the text leaves with numeration notes in ink to margins, predominantly in vol. 1, bookplate, some spotting, original boards with morocco labels to spines, joint ends with tears, spines sunned, [Hagen 2 p.35], 8vo, Paris, 1837.⁂ James Charles Dale (1791-1872) was an English naturalist and entomologist, most famous for the discovery of the "Lulworth Skipper", a butterfly of his Dorset homeland. Elected a member of the first Entomological Society of London, he was friends with other notable entomologists of the day, some like John Curtis, referring to Dale on his work on Celeoptera. Dale's collection resides in the Hope Department of Entomology (Oxford University Museum of Natural History). Bookplate reads, "J.C. Dale... Glanville's Wooton, High Sheriff of Dorset 1843" with the motto "Floreat Entomologia".

A History of North American Birds, 3 vol., first edition, half-titles, 64 wood-engraved plates with fine hand-colouring, wood-engraved illustrations, bookplates, A.L.s from author with envelope, enclosed in envelope stuck down to front pastedown, contemporary ?original green cloth, extremities rubbed, with small tears or chips to spine ends, [Nissen IVB 63; Wood 218], 4to, Boston, 1874.⁂ Letter dated March 23rd 1864, written on headed paper of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, and relates to Baird's studies on American birds.
Cory (Charles B.) The Birds of Haiti and San Domingo, first edition, one of 300 copies, 22 hand-coloured lithograph plates, 1 uncoloured lithograph map, original printed grey wrappers (of parts) bound at end, ink stamps to front pastedown and endpaper, 6 plates and 24 text ff. with small tear at top edge and repairs, some plates with minor spotting or soiling at edges, contemporary red half-morocco by James of New York, joints and extremities lightly rubbed, [Nissen 204; Wood p.300; Zimmer p.137], 4to, Boston, Estes & Lauriat, 1885.⁂ The original wrappers state the edition would run to 300 copies, sold only to subscribers; first three parts date 1884, the fourth 1885.
Parrots.- Greene (W.T.) Parrots in Captivity, 3 vol., first edition, 81 wood-engraved plates printed in colours and finished by hand, tissue guards, bookplate of Robert Mackenzie Waggaman, some very light offsetting and marginal toning, plates in vol. 3 lightly browned, occasional light spotting to fore-edge, the odd patch of very light soiling, but overall a clean copy, some cracking at gutter with one gathering in vol. 1 loose, original blind-stamped cloth with gilt pictorial upper covers, corners lightly rubbed, vol. 3 with corners a little bumped, one or two small marks, overall a crisp set, [Nissen IVB 393; Zimmer 274; Wood 368], large 8vo, 1884-87.⁂ An account of the habits of 81 varieties of parrots, parakeets, lories, cockatoos &tc. The first two volumes were issued in 18 parts between 1883 and 1884, with the third volume appearing entire in 1887. "A fourth volume is said to have been begun in 1888, of which only two parts with nine coloured plates were issued" (Wood).

Sclater (P.L.) A Monograph of the Jacamars and Puff-Birds, or Families Galbulidae and Bucconidae, bound from the original 7 parts, first edition, list of subscribers, 55 fine hand-coloured lithographed plates by J.G.Keulemans printed by Hanhart, some heightened with gum arabic, extra illustrated with an additional smaller hand-coloured lithograph at plate 23, wood-engraved title-vignette and illustrations, title with two small abrasions and laid down to sheet, the occasional scattered spot, contemporary maroon half morocco, light scuffing to extremities, [Anker 451; Fine Bird Books p.139; Nissen IVB 840], 4to, for the Author, by R. H. Porter, et al., [1879-82]⁂ Jacamars and Puff-birds are closely related insect-eating species native to the tropical areas of South and Central America. Altogether 62 forms of the two groups, 60 of which [this includes some plates with two birds] are figured on the beautiful plates, executed in hand-coloured lithography." (Anker).
