Cummings' autobiographical first novel is based on his experiences as an enlistee with the Norton-Harjes Ambulance Corps in France, where he openly expressed anti-war views. He was arrested and held by the French military on suspicion of espionage for three and a half months.   Of Cummings' first novel, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote: "Of all the work by young men who have sprung up since 1920 one book survives €”The Enormous Room by e e cummings...Those few who cause books to live have not been able to endure the thought of its mortality."   Firmage A1. "This is an important member of the evolutionary set, and it was written, in part at least, as a confutation of the idea that the facial muscles of expression in man were a special endowment" (Freeman). JOAN MIRÓ I FERRÀ (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma de Mallorca, 1983)."Les essències de la terra". 1969.Lithograph, copy 6/200.Signed with monogram and justified by hand.Work published in the catalogue raisonné "Miró Litógrafo" Vol.IV Ed.Polígrafa, pg 26. ref.625.Measurements: 75 x 57,5 cm.; 88 x 70 cm.(frame).This lithograph was reproduced in the Italian edition (Juan Perucho, Milan, 1969) of "Les essències de la terra", a compendium of old Catalan texts illustrated with original lithographs by Miró.Joan Miró trained in Barcelona and made his individual debut in 1918 at the Galeries Dalmau. In 1920 he moved to Paris and met Picasso, Raynal, Max Jacob, Tzara and the Dadaists. There, under the influence of the surrealist poets and painters, he gradually matured his style; he tried to transpose surrealist poetry to the visual, based on memory, fantasy and the irrational. His third exhibition in Paris in 1928 was his first great triumph: the Museum of Modern Art in New York acquired two of his works. He returned to Spain in 1941, and that same year the museum devoted a retrospective exhibition to him which was to be his definitive international consecration. Throughout his life he received numerous awards, such as the Grand Prizes at the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, the Carnegie Prize for Painting in Venice, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat de Catalunya and of the Fine Arts, and was awarded honorary doctorates by the universities of Harvard and Barcelona. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo. This lithograph shows us the most essentialist Miró in his search for minimal and suggestive forms. Ranges limited to a few colours applied to flat, shiny surfaces combine to evoke the lyrical communion between man and his environment.

Das Gendai Hanga Centre in Tokio bat Warhol, für eine Ausstellung im Jahr 1983 ein Werk zu schaffen, das sich mit Blumen befasst. Warhol schuf eine Reihe von Bildern, die von der Chrysantheme (Kiku auf Japanisch) inspiriert waren, die traditionell als Symbol für den japanischen Kaiser und den kaiserlichen Haushalt verwendet wird. The Gendai Hanga Centre in Tokyo asked Warhol to create a work dealing with flowers for an exhibition in 1983. Warhol created a series of paintings inspired by the chrysanthemum (kiku in Japanese), traditionally used as a symbol of the Japanese emperor and the imperial household. - Well presevered

Nearly a hundred years, thirty volumes and several editions later, it was still being issued, setting a record for the time taken to publish a conchological work. ... Few students and collectors of land shells are not familiar with the name of Louis Pfeiffer. Benefiting largely from his close acquaintance with Hugh Cuming he was able to describe many hundreds of new species, chiefly from tropical regions, and his eight-volume Monographia Heliceorum viventium listed and described all the Helices then known. While this was being issued Pfeiffer began to publish a more ambitious work, the Novitates Conchologicae, the first five volumes of which are devoted to non-marine molluscs and all of them replete with beautiful coloured illustrations. ...
