R. The plates are an extraordinary array of advertisements by all the leading designers of the day, including Charles Martin, Foujita, Cocteau, Boucher, Dignimont etc.

Farrell (J.G.) A Girl in the Head, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "It wasn't a good pâté (better luck next time). Lerve, Jim, July 1968" to front free endpaper, front free endpaper browned, bookplate, original boards, dust-jacket, spine slightly browned, spine ends and corners a little chipped, still excellent overall, 8vo, 1967.⁂ Farrell's third book, rare signed, we can trace no other like copy. The recipient was Sandy Ellis, Farrell's girlfriend from 1966-68. Three other titles inscribed to Ellis from Farrell were offered in these rooms (22nd March 2018, lots 250-252).

The power of Owen's poetry is as significant today as it was when first written, under the encouragement of Siegfried Sassoon (who wrote the introduction to this posthumously published collection), in the trenches of Flanders, mostly in 1917 and 1918. Owen was killed one week before the armistice was signed in 1918.

The recipients are John Chilton (1932-2016), the jazz trumpeter and writer, and his wife Teresa.
Rhys (Jean) Wide Sargasso Sea, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "For John + Teresa, Jean Rhys, Best wishes for a happy, New Year" to title, original boards, dust-jacket, spine ends a little rubbed and creased, a near-fine copy otherwise, 8vo, 1966.⁂ Rhys' breakthrough novel, a prequel to Jane Eyre that brought her out of obscurity and allowed her works to receive the attention they had long deserved. Rare signed.
