1973 Lotus Elan Plus 2 JPS Special Transmission: manualMileage:Released in 1967 the Elan Plus 2 was introduced to a motoring public who craved the long-distance versatility of a Grand Touring Coupé coupled to the Elans already established fantastic performance and roadholding. Lotus stretched the existing Elans wheelbase by 12 inches, added 24 inches to the overall length and balanced things up by making the car 10 inches wider. The result was a superbly balanced coupe which made no compromises when compared to its little brother's performance. With some 5,200 Plus 2 examples built with arguably the most desirable and sought-after models being the 'John Player Special' commemorative edition, built to celebrate the first 50 consecutive wins by the Lotus team in world championship motor racing. The impressive and rare car offered here is no. 22 of the 115 examples built. It presents in the special edition colours of black with gold roof and sills, this is complemented with an oatmeal interior. It benefits from a genuine replacement Lotus galvanised chassis and a Mick Miller solid driveshaft conversion. Prior to the vendors purchase a full suspension and braking system overhaul was undertaken including the replacement of the exhaust system. The vendor tells us that the car has seen very little use during his six year tenure. We are also informed that the paintwork may benefit from some attention. That aside this rare Lotus is ready to be enjoyed and is offered with a V5c registration document, a Lotus Certificate of vehicle Provenance, a letter from the archives at Lotus detailing the cars origins and a file containing various bills and receipts.

2010 Jaguar XKR '75' Edition Transmission: automaticMileage:55931The XK8 was launched in 1996 to replace the XJ-S. Two body styles were produced, a coupé and a convertible and the car was the first in the Jaguar line-up to use Jaguar's newly developed V8 engine. In 2000, the supercharged XKR was added to the range. This produced a staggering 503 horsepower, a subtle rear spoiler, wire mesh front grille and red exterior emblems were identifying features. The XKR's engine was made in England, the ignition system was from NGK in Japan, the transmission was a Mercedes-Benz 722.6, the lighting system was by Valeo in France and the supercharger was made by Eaton in the USA, it was truly a world car. The redesigned XK was styled by Jaguar's chief designer Ian Callum. The standard XK model has a limited top speed of 158mph whilst the XKR had a limited top speed of 174mph. Mike Cross built this limited production road car, which actually made its debut at the 2010 festival. He gave it stronger suspension uprights for tighter camber control, stiffer springs (28% front, 32% rear), recalibrated adaptive dampers and slightly wider wheels (up half an inch at the front, 1 inch at the rear), the back rims wearing 10mm wider rubber too. The front and rear spoilers are the same as those available on other XKRs equipped with the optional cosmetic Speed Pack, but the deeper side sills are unique to the 75. Every car came in Stratus Grey, but the silver wheelarch eyebrows are optional. A new exhaust unleashes a mightier roar, hinting at the extra engine power under the bonnet. When Jaguar introduced the new 5.0-litre engines, the supercharged version actually had to be slightly detuned to preserve the transmission. But the XKR 75 got an improved torque converter, which meant the engine was allowed to deliver the full 523bhp, up from 503bhp in lesser Jags. Understood to be one of only 20 right hand drive examples of the 75 edition built, this fabulous example which was a mighty £85,500 when new is presented in Stratus Grey (as they all were) with black leather interior. These cars had a limited top speed of 174 mph and 0-60mph was achieved in a staggering 4.4 seconds! Its bodywork has a front splitter, extended sills, a rear defuser and a larger rear spoiler. It is fitted with red calipers and 20 inch Vortex forged alloys. With its superb Supercharged V8 producing 523bhp, this exhilarating Jaguar sounds fabulous and is great to drive at a fraction of the cost when new.

Bulmer & Co. for J.Bell, 1801.⁂ A wonderfully macabre work, initially attributed to Matthew Lewis but now assumed to be a parody of his work. "The book is gruesome and in its illustrations even disgusting and it seems impossible that Lewis could have had anything to do with it. Some of the ballads are too coarse and grotesque to stand comparison with any work by M. G. Lewis." - Montague Summers, A Gothic Bibliography. [Austen (Jane)] Pride and Prejudice: A Novel...By the Author of "Sense and Sensibility", 3 vol., second edition, half-titles (vol.1 half-title with C. Roworth imprint to verso), titles supplied from first edition, vol. 1 & 3 half-titles, vol. 1 E7, vol. 2 C2 & D2 and vol. 3 G2 with short neatly repaired tears, vol. 2 C8 and vol. 3 title and L5 with restoration to lower margins, some foxing and light soiling, armorial bookplate of John Croft Deverell to front pastedowns, late 19th century polished calf, gilt, spines gilt in compartments with red and brown morocco labels (a little rubbed), joints cracked, t.e.g., others uncut, slip-case, [Gilson A4], 12mo, T.Egerton, 1813.⁂ Austen's most famous and best-loved novel. It was first published in January 1813 and this second edition probably in October of the same year, being advertised with the second edition of Sense and Sensibility in The Star on Friday 29th October 1813. It was entirely re-set, with some variations within the page and to spelling and punctuation.

Nightingale (Florence).- Henslow (Fanny H.) Literary Gleanings. By an Invalid. Second Series, first edition, presentation inscription from Florence Nightingale to her sister Parthenope "Miss P. Nightingale with the best respects of the gleaner" to endpaper, occasional light dampstaining to head, ink ownership inscription of Ruth Verney to endpaper, original cloth, spine sunned, splitting to lower joint but holding firm spine ends a little chipped, 12mo, 1857.⁂ A charming association copy of this work dedicated to Florence Nightingale and gifted by her to her older sister, and one of her closest supporters and friends, Parthenope. Parthenope would marry Harry Verney in 1858 so this inscription is likely dated on or around the year of the book's publication, a year in which Florence had been invalided. Florence's reference to herself as "the gleaner" is curious and combined with the printed dedication could indicate that she assisted in some of the selections presented in the work.

Nightingale (Florence).- Wood (Rev. J. G.) Routledge's Picture Natural History, first edition, signed presentation inscription from Florence Nightingale "For my dear little God-child Ruth [Verney] from God-mama aunt Florence. July 1882" to endpaper, illustrations, some light finger-soiling, several gatherings loose, original pictorial cloth, lacking backstrip, spine broken, rubbed, 4to, [c.1880].⁂ An excellent association copy inscribed by Nightingale to her goddaughter. Ruth Verney was the daughter of Parthenope Nightingale and Harry Verney (who had proposed to the older of the Nightingales after his proposal was rejected by Florence). Florence would play a significant role in Ruth's upbringing and her goddaughter would return the favour in continuing her godmother's legacy after her death in 1910.

Founder of British sports science.- Abrahams (Harold M. and Dr. Adolphe) Training for Athletes, first edition, plates, light spotting to fore-edge, light browning to endpapers, original cloth, light sunning to spine, dust-jacket, light browning to spine, minor chipping to spine ends and corners, but a bright, near-fine example overall, 8vo, 1928.⁂ A superb example of this scarce book, we can trace no other copy in the dust-jacket. Abrahams (whose exploits are famously recounted in the film The Chariots of Fire) won the 100m at the 1924 Olympics. Adolphe was medical officer for the British Olympic team from 1912 to 1948 and is now regarded as the founder of British sports science.

Seeger copy of Conrad's key response to the First World War with a good association inscription. Christopher Sandeman was a Polish journalist with a particular interest in the future of Polish nationhood as well as a member of the Polish Intelligence Services. He was a friend and regular correspondent of Conrad's.

The British Library holds the manuscript of this work with Eliot's editorial annotations.
