First edition. 8vo. portrait frontispiece plates original green cloth fore-edges uncut corners bumped dustwrapper partly preserved but with edges frayed with a presentation inscription to Frank Byers from the author on the front free endpaper Note: Cyril Tolley was a leading amateur player in the 1920s. He won the British Amateur in 1920 and in 1929 at Royal St. Georges. He also won the French Open in 1924 and 1928. He was defeated by Bobby Jones on the 37th hole of the 1930 British Amateur the first leg of Jones' Grand Slam that year. The book is largely instructional but also devotes several chapters to golf courses his career and his experiences in America.

Folz a surgeon and barber in Nuremberg was the author of several poems (many to do with public health) farces and plays; he also worked as a printer. The assignment of this edition to Augsburg is based on the woodcut which is either a copy or a reworking of a block which was once owned by the printer Heinrich Steiner who had gone bankrupt in 1547.

The Nouvel aperçu followed the Aperçu des résultats... dans le cours des années 1810 et 1811 which was published in 1812. The Art de faire les eaux-de-vie was first published in 1801.
