This work is a vivid account of the court life of the Punjab. He also had a high regard for the Sikh soldiers and their artillery. Lot 288

Autograph – James Cook a 1749 edition of The History of Tom Jones by Henry Fielding 4th volume covering books 10-12 apparently complete original calf boards detached but present. The title page bears the signature ‘James Cook’ as well as the signature of William Norton with the address 19 Fishermans Hospital. While it is inconclusive as to whether the Cook signature is of the discoverer of Australia we have compared it with known examples and it certainly bears a considerable affinity. If Cook had signed this book when it first was published he would have been 20 years old. The second signature is intriguing in that a William Norton was known to have been associated with Captain King who continued Cook’s voyage after the latter’s death.

Napoleonic Wars edition of the Morning Chronicle for November 3rd 1813 carrying an extensive report on Wellington’s invasion of France – the first blow which was finally to lead to Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo in the following year. Lot 345

WWII – Adolf Hitler – Mein Kampf 1st edition 1925 laminated covers library label of Der Deutschen Technischen Hochschule in Brunn to inside cover (access number 32.283/VI) further label affixed to title page with a Russian stamp and another card affixed to reverse of title page indicating a Swiss collector dated 1929. Indistinct ownership signature to title page dated 1925 otherwise interior pages appear good. Hitler’s book ran into many editions and is still being produced today. However the first edition produced in 1925 is one of the rarest books on the market as only 500 copies were produced. This edition contained only the first part of Hitler’s epic. Sales were reasonable so the publishers agreed to a second edition which appeared in 1926. This carried a second part marking its first appearance.
