FRANK, A. Het Achterhuis. Dagboekbrieven van 12 juni 1942 - 1 Aug. 1944. Met een voorw. d. A. Romein-Verschoor. Amst., 1947. ix, 253 pp. Illustr. w. front. portrait of the author, 2 photographic reproductions of the interior of the house, 1 floor plan, and 2 facsimiles from the diary. Obrds. (Binding w. the usual discolouring/browning). NOTE: "Ik bewaar alles voor Anne totdat ze terugkomt" ("I'm saving everything for Anne until she comes back"), is what Miep Gies said to Bep Voskuijl after she picked up Anne Frank's diary and other personal papers from the floor where they were scattered after the family Frank was arrested (S. v. Beek, Geschiedenis van het Dagboek, p. 30). That Miep Gies (1909-2010), whose real name was Hermine Santrouschitz, donated a first edition of 'Het Achterhuis' so shortly after its publication is rather spectacular. The book is signed Miep [Gies], 'Wil' and 'Greet' and was apparently donated to the Amsterdam resistance hero M[artin] Mobach on 13 July 1947, shortly after publication (ascertained by a letter by family member Marten Mobach, see the website further down). The identity of the other two women, 'Wil' and 'Greet', has not yet been determined. According to a ticket on the upper paste-down, this copy was bought in the bookshop of W. ten Have, Amsterdam. The book was restored by Wilma van Ipenburg. For further information on this copy please also go to: www.paulabels.nl/2021/04/anne-frank-in-de-goudse-sint-janskerk/
