Commentari delle cose di Firenze dal 1215 al 1537, divisi in XII. libri, circa 1728, Italian manuscript, black ink on laid paper, title page + 635 pp., 27 lines to the page written in a neat cursive hand, catch-words, calligraphic title page and headings, decorative tailpieces, occasional spotting and tanning, worming to endpapers and to lower margin of title page and first few text leaves, headings to books 8 and 11 left blank (the copyist's draft text on a laid-in slip), contemporary sheep, worn, loss to spine ends, folio (34 x 22 cm) Kristeller, Iter Italicum, p. 34. Neat 18th-century manuscript copy of the chronicle of Florence by Florentine patrician and man of letters Filippo de'Nerli (1485-1556), first published in Augsburg in 1728 as Commentari de' fatti civili occorsi dentro la citta di Firenze dall'anno 1215 al 1537. Provenance: Cecil H. Clough FSA (1930-2017), with a laid-in photocopied letter from Clough in Italian suggesting that the manuscript was probably made from a copy of the 1728 edition. (1)

More Men or Mark, 1st edition, Duckworth & Co., [1922], 33 tipped-in photogravure plates, some spotting, mostly to initial text leaves, original cloth, rubbed and somewhat soiled, 4to, together with a photogravure portrait by Coburn of George Bernard Shaw, signed in pencil by the photographer to lower margin, 20.5 x 15.5cm The portrait of George Bernard Shaw appears as the first portrait in Coburn's first volume of portraits of eminent men titled 'Men of Mark', 1913. This second volume includes portraits of Thomas Hardy, Ezra Pound, Frank Harris, Augustus John, Joseph Conrad and the photographer himself. (2)

Sinai and Palestine; Upper Egypt and Ethiopia, volume 1 and part of volume 3 bound as one, William Mackenzie, [1862-63], both volumes with printed and additional title-pages with mounted photograph, a total of 37 and 19 albumen print views (including additional title-pages), all mounted, most signed in the negative and with the occasional date 1857, mostly 16.5 x 23cm and similar, some old dampstaining to mounts and margins of accompanying text leaves, a few nicks and small repairs to blank margins, all edges gilt, modern half morocco gilt with original cloth gilt title panel from first volume pasted to front pastedown, folio (43.5 x 32cm) Gernsheim, Incunabula of British Photographic Literature 1839-1875, no. 195. Part of the preferred second enlarged edition of 1862, the three volumes each containing 37 photographs. The missing volume 2 covered Lower Egypt, Thebes and the Pyramids; volume 3 comprises the first 19 photographs (and accompanying text leaves) as listed on the contents leaf, the last photograph present being 'Doum Palm, and Ruined Mosque'. A Supplementary Volume (with 33 albumen prints) completes the set. (1)
