This copy matches the precedence given by Gaston Renard with the lithographs by W. West facing pp.66 and 225.

NO RESERVE Trees.- Withers (W[illiam]) A Letter to Sir Walter Scott...exposing certain fundamental errors in his late Essay on planting, and containing observations on the pruning and thinning of woods, and maxims for profitable planting, first edition, occasional spotting or light staining, original printed wrappers, advertisements for other titles by the author to rear wrapper, small chip and split at foot of spine, but holding firm, lightly soiled, a good wide-margined copy, 8vo, Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1828.⁂ Rare in original printed wrappers. Withers owned two plantations near Holt in Norfolk. He objected to Scott's essays on planting in the Quarterly Review, accusing him of advocating the 'cheap, hole-digging, short-sighted Scotch system, which is calculated to bring upon those who adopt it only loss and disappointment.'. Scott had proposed a collection of his essays on planting and gardening, but late in 1828, perhaps as a result of Withers' criticism, he withdrew the proposal.

Bugg (1640-1727) was fined for attending a meeting of the Friends around 1675. He believed that the preacher Samuel Cater should be liable for his fine, as it was he who had encouraged him to attend. However, arbitrators disagreed. Consequently, he attended the yearly Quaker meeting in London, and there complained to William Penn that the Friends had refused him justice. He eventually left the Society in 1680 and began to write against Quakerism.

NO RESERVE Mathematics.- Hinton (Howard) The Fourth Dimension, first edition, half-title, errata slip, folding colour plate, some faint spotting, original cloth, spine sunned, ends and joints a little bumped and rubbed, 8vo, 1904.⁂ British Mathematician (1853-1907), Hinton is most well known for coining the word "tesseract", a means to perceive higher dimensions, and for his work on methods of visualising the geometry of higher dimensions.

America.- Constitutions (The) of the Several Independent States of America, first Dublin edition, portion of title torn away with loss to a few letters of imprint, B3 & 5 with marginal loss, staining and soiling throughout, ink ownership inscription "Wm. A. Woods" to head of title, lacking front free endpaper, contemporary polished calf, some chipping to spine label, joints a little rubbed with splitting to head of lower joint, [Sabin 16090, "This Irish edition is scarce."]8vo, [Dublin], London printed, from the original Philadelphia edition ... and Dublin reprinted: Gilbert, Price, et al., 1783.⁂ The scarce Dublin edition of this work, first published in Philadelphia in 1781.
