This was the first issue released after the game as the paper wasn't published on Sunday's. Generally good

This was the Monday edition and first issue released after the match as the paper wasn't produced on Sunday's. Generally good

'Among the many new books which were consumed is Dr. Kane's History of his Artic Explorations, a large octavo, profusely illustrated with engravings, which had been ready for some days, but was kept back until supply could be secured.' (The New York Times). A richly illustrated account by the senior medical officer of the first Grinnell Arctic Expedition (1850-51). It describes icebergs, narwhals, bears, birds, meteors, inuit kayaking techniques and the discovery of Franklin's first winter camp.

Africa.- Verner (Capt. Willoughby) Sketches in the Soudan, first edition, additional lithographed pictorial title, list of subscribers, 39 chromolithographed plates on 37 sheets by J.G.Keulemans after Verner, each with facing explanatory leaf of text, chromolithographed map, advertisement leaf at end, some light foxing, original pictorial boards, rubbed, corners a little worn, rebacked in cloth, oblong folio, 1885.⁂ The artist served in the Rifle Brigade, D.A.A.G. Intelligence Department, Nile Expeditionary Force of 1884-85 which was an attempt to relieve General Gordon besieged in Khartoum by the rebellious Mahdi. The expedition travelled up the Nile in small adapted whalers, aided by Canadian voyageurs to negotiate the rapids, and were attacked by the rebels at Abu Klea and Abu Kru but managed to continue. They finally reached Khartoum in January 1885, two days after Gordon and the garrison had been massacred. As well as scenes of the Nile, the desert, and the battlefields & military engagements, there are more everyday sketches of bivouacs and camps, finding water in the desert, and portraits of those involved.

Ngugi (James) Weep Not, Child, first edition, biro jotting to 'Part 1' page, original boards, dust-jacket, light chipping to corners and spine ends, extremities with neat and expert restorations and repairs along joints and edges, 1964.⁂ This is the first novel by James Ngugi (now Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o), and was the first English language novel to be published by an East African. Thiong'o's works deal with the relationship between Africans and white settlers in colonial Kenya, and are heavily critical of colonial rule. Rare in commerce.
