However, due to economic difficulties caused by the Depression, Cleverdon was unable to confirm the commission, and the only known outcome was a single plate executed by Richards in 1930 or 1931 and never proofed.In 1978 this print was rediscovered, and in 1980 was published for the first time by the Friends of the Tate Gallery in association with Barn Elm Editions, in an edition limited to 150.

This rare work was issued in 14 parts and is seldom found complete as here: apparently only twenty copies were published. Copies found in only two UK libraries and one other worldwide. In his Preface to part I Mosley explains his intention that all the plates would be drawn and coloured by hand. "The advantage of this will be - I can regulate the supply according to the demand, without going into a lot of expense in lithographing them ... The parts will be issued occasionally, as I am able to complete them". However it appears that as the work progressed he was compelled to resort to lithography.

David Hosack (1769-1835) was a notable American botanist and physician, who had established the Elgin Botanic Garden in New York, the first US public botanical garden as well as a medical school at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He was also physician to Alexander Hamilton and attended him and his son Philip after both had been fatally shot during their respective duels in 1804 and 1801. Unsigned binding but attributed to Henry. I. Megarey, New York (pencil note at front). The first book printed in America to contain lithographs, which were produced by Barnet & Doolittle in New York.

The plates that were being prepared for a new edition were instead adapted to accommodate Smith's detailed geology, the first set of geological maps being issued in 1819. This is the first state of these rare geological county maps. The second state, although coloured using William Smith's geology, gives no acknowledgement to Smith at all.

Between 1591 and 1597 he made two long journeys, the first through parts of Europe (1591-1595) and the second (Nov. 1595-July 1597) to the Levant. His Itinerary, published long after his return from the East, was originally composed in Latin, presumably from careful notes made at the time. Moryson translated it himself into English. The remarks on the Levant are complete. Many sections on Europe remained in manuscript till 1903, when they were edited and published by Charles Hughes as Shakespeare's Europe." (Blackmer). Sold with all faults not subject to return.Further investigation confirms that leaf Z5 (i.e. p. 273/274) is definitely lacking.
