DENIS MITCHELL. 'Buryan.' Bronze sculpture on slate base. Initialled, titled, numbered 0/7 & dated 1976 to the base. Height including base 33cm. Provenance: Purchased in 1989 by the late Ian McPherson, direct from Denis Mitchell. Sold with a note of provenance from Mr McPherson's daughter, along with the 11 photographs mentioned in the note, which includes seven of Denis Mitchell with this sculpture. The edition number '0' may indicate this was the artist's own copy. CONDITION REPORTS: This bronze is an artist's proof I believe. The back of the bronze has a slightly non-patinated, textured surface, (see photo) which I feel sure is not present in the other 7 cast. The sculpture is in good, original condition. I believe that this was the first casting of 'Buryan' made for Denis Mitchell, which he kept at home.
