Paris, 1694, eng. addn. title-page, two plts., and six folding plts. of music, early ms. ownership signature at head of title-page crossed through, contemp. vellum, 12mo in 6's The earliest edition in UK libraries as stated in COPAC is the 1695 Amsterdam edition. This play was thought to have been written for the Comediens du Roy who occupied the theatre in Paris known as the Hotel du Bourgogne, with the first performance being given around 1684. 'Les Souffleurs', a play with music, was of a type which eventually evolved into the form known as opera-comique. (1)

Gill 279. Franklin, Private presses, pp.142-144. One of only six copies printed on vellum (of a total edition of 225 copies), this numbered 5, and signed by Eric Gill and Robert Gibbings. The first of the three most important productions of the Golden Cockerel Press (the others being The Canterbury Tales and The Four Gospels). Eric Gill's illustrations are a tour-de-force of imaginative design. (1)
