* HANNAH FRANK (SCOTTISH 1908 - 2008), FLIGHT (1939) lithograph on paper, signed in inkframed and under glassimage size 35.5cm x 28cm, overall size 47cm x 38cmProvenance: HFDS Plate 16 page 97. The original pen and ink work was exhibited at the RGI in 1942. Flight (1939) is also the largest and most prominent photograph shown on the front cover of "Hannah Frank, A Glasgow Artist, Drawings & Sculpture" second edition, Revised and updated by Fiona Frank.Note: Since McTear's first promoted Hannah Frank's spectacular work in 2011, the prices for her ever more rare signed prints have continued to rise with many current prices being more than five times higher than those achieved barely a decade ago. The latest UK auction record figure for a single signed lithograph was most recently achieved (twice) in our auction on 24th October 2021 but beaten in January 2023 in Edinburgh by a single print achieving £900 (hammer). Note 2: Hannah Frank was the last living link to the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau period. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University in the 1920`s and her haunting pen and ink drawings have been exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute. A series of lithographs of some of her 90 drawings were made in the 1960's and again in the 1980's to satisfy the demand for her work after exhibitions in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Only a relatively few of these prints were hand signed (in pencil) by Hannah and it's understood that only one print was ever editioned (numbered) in a conventional manner. A major exhibition at the Royal Glasgow Institute in 2006 brought her work to a new generation of admirers and received considerable press coverage. Her work toured for five years in the UK and the USA culminating in an exhibition at Glasgow University which opened on her 100th birthday 23rd August 2008. After her death, she was awarded a posthumous Honorary Doctorate at Glasgow University and Glasgow City Council`s Lord Provost`s Award For Art (2009).

Full title: Johann Siebmacher: Das Neue Wappenbuch (The new book of armorials), 1605, NeurenbergDescription:Dim.: 21,5 x 17 x 5 cm Ref.: Stadtisches Museum Schloss Rheydt, inv. no. 1094531, for another example. (External link available on rm-auctions.com) This hand-coloured example is the first edition of Sibmacher's magnus opus. The Holy Roman Empire consisted of hundreds of sovereign states and individual dominions. The variety of families operating in this framework and their diverse relationships with one another was similarly confusing. Reference works like this coat of arms compendium attempted to provide an overview. The structure of the coats of arms is based on the structure of the Holy Roman Empire. First the coats of arms of the emperor and the electors are shown, then those of the other princes, counts, etc. The title page proudly points out that over 3,320 coats of arms are shown. Under the register, we find thee printer's mark: Printed in Nuremberg by Christoph Lochner / Published by Johann Sibmacher, / In the 1605th year. Johann Ambrosius Siebmacher (1561-1611) was a German coat of arms painter and engraver in Nuremberg, who is today best known for his Wappenbüchlein/Wappenbuch. The 1605 edition shows the most with 264 coats of arms. Siebmacher's book of arms became the standard work of heraldry and supplementary volumes were published until 1806. A total of around 19,000 coats of arms are represented. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, further coats of arms collections followed with the 'Neuer Siebmacher'.Condition reports:Condition reports (unless otherwise specified above):Please contact us on info@rm-auctions.com to request a condition report. At this time, under the oversight of Jean-Jacques Cartier, Cartier created some of the most interesting and now sought after designs of the vintage watch world including the Crash. The first Cartier Crash models were produced and sold exclusively at the Cartier Boutique London in 1967. Since then, just a small number of variants were produced over the following decades. The present watch was part of a limited edition that Cartier's Paris boutique released in 1991. Just 400 pieces were made and it is individually numbered 015 on its case back and Paris printed on the dial.
