Rory Breslin (b.1963) WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS, 2014 bronze; (no. 2 from an edition of 5) signed on left side The first example from this edition can be found in The Academy of Letters in New Dehli. It was presented by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Charlie Flanagan, to the Indian Ambassador as a reciprocal gesture for the bust of Yeats' friend, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the Indian National poet and Nobel Laureate installed in St. Stephen's Green 2011. The bust is modelled on the series of photographs by George Charles Beresford taken in July 1911 - a pivotal year for Yeats - who worked as a photographic portraitist in Knightsbridge, London. Academics contend that Yeats' work post-1911 was strongly influenced by Ezra Pound - who he met that year - becoming more Modern in its concision and imagery. 1911 was also the year he met his future wife "Georgie" Hyde Lees and accompanied the Abbey Players on tour in the USA. 24.25 by 19.50 by 11.50in. MARAT JEAN-PAUL : (1743-1793) French Political Theorist, Scientist and radical Journalist during the French Revolution, advocating for basic human rights for the poorest, and publishing on his periodical L´Ami du Peuple (“The People´s Friend”). Marat was assassinated in 1793 and became a revolutionary martyr to the Jacobins. Extremely rare A.N., two pages, clipped 5.5 x 3.5 piece, n.p.[Paris], n.d.[1790], in French. The document being apparently the text of a journal article by Marat, largely crossed and with numerous amendments, stating in part `Boucher D´Argis, counsellor at the Chatelet..has ordered to arrest..near the Palais street St Barthelemy the citizen called Claude Bourelat…old-man, peddler, having shouted..l´Ami du Peuple..´ further saying `..We could believe that having forgotten his duties as judge, belittle himself and goes personally to look for the guard and in person orders to arrest this unfortunate sexagenarian and take him to the police committee at the St Barthelemi district. He has been inspected and deprived of his belongings..´ To the verso showing a written text which could correspond to an order of purchase. Together with Anne Félicité Colombe, Marat´s collaborator in the journal, one page, 6 x 5.5 sheet, 1791, to the Mayor of Paris, Sylvain Bailly. Colombe is imprisoned for ten days now at the Abbaye, and has not been interrogated yet and asks the Mayor´s help stating in part `Please respond to my request which is fair and is part of your principles..´ Accompanied by the envelope page bearing a red wax seal. Also including a rare A.L.S., by M. Panier, two pages, oblong 4to, to Jean Paul Marat. Panier, in his capacity as Mayor of Verduns-le-Doux asks Marat to send him all the copies of the journal he is missing, also stating `And also to know the reasons for this very long suspension of the publishing of the journal which made me feel fear for the author´s safety. I have not received any response..´ The edition of the journal L´Ami du Peuple was several times interrupted due to Marat´s absence as he had to hide himself pushed by his enemies. Accompanied by the envelope page bearing remnants of a red wax seal addressed to Monsieur Marat. G £1000-1200The text of this document was published on the l´Ami du Peuple journal, number 95, 12th January 1790, entitled Scandaleuse (`Scandalous´) André-Jean Boucher d'Argis (1750-1794) French Lawyer and Counselor at the Chatelet. He was one of the first denouncing Marat´s articles in the l´Ami du Peuple..

CAPOTE TRUMAN: (1924-1984) American Novelist. An excellent book signed `Truman Capote´, a 4to hardback printed edition of Capote´s famous novel In Cold Blood (1966), first edition, published by Random House, New York, 1966. Boldly signed in blue ink by Capote to the front free endpaper with his name alone. The 343 pages book is attractively bound in carmine with embossed gilt title and author letters to the spine and featuring to the front cover his two initials "T.C". Accompanied by the dust jacket featuring Neil Fujita artist cover work. VG £200-300 In Cold Blood (1966) details the 1959 murders of four members of the Herbert Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas. Capote spent six years working on the book which got an instant success, and today is the second-biggest-selling true crime book in publishing history. In Cold Blood was first published as a four-part serial in The New Yorker, beginning in September 1965. Neil Fujita (1921-2010) American graphic Designer known for his innovative book covers and record album designs.

GAGARIN YURI: (1934-1968) Russian Cosmonaut. First human to travel in space, 1961. Signed book by Gagarin, in Cyrillic, being a 5.5 x 8 hardback edition of Gagarin´s autobiography Road to the Stars (1961). A Russian text edition, in Cyrillic, published in Moscow, 1961. Signed by Gagarin in bold blue ink to the front free end paper. The 175 pages book featuring 56 pages with photographs of Gagarin, with his relatives, colleagues, and receiving awards from Russian leaders. Original dust jacket still present. Gagarin died at the early age of 34 when the MiG-15 jet he was piloting crashed. Some overall age wear. G £300-400

Book signed and inscribed, an 8vo paperback first edition of La France sera La France - Ce que veut Charles de Gaulle (`France will be France - What Charles de gaulle wants´), published by Bouchy & Son, Paris, 1950. The French text edition correspond to a work by the "Rassemblement du peuple Français" association ("The French People Gathering"). The 335 pages book is signed and inscribed in bold blue ink to the title page `To Miss Christine Duclos, as a friendly souvenir with my respectful homage. C. de Gaullle.´ in French. The present copy is numbered 5829 of the ten thousand copies issued for this first edition, with printed inscription to Christine Duclos. Very small overall age wear, and small staining. VG £200-300

CHAVEZ HUGO: (1954-2013) President of Venezuela 1999-2013. An extraordinary D.S., H. Chavez, seven pages, 4to, Yare, July 1992. The document being the logo of the Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement MBR-200, together with the test editions for printer. Signed by Chavez beneath the MBR-200 logo `Original elaborado en Yare. July 1992. H Chavez´ ("Original copy elaborated at Yare, July 1992"). The logo showing the shape of the Colombian territory with the MBR-200 text inside. Some of the copy edition tests being coloured with the yellow, red and blue Colombian flag colours. Small overall, minor age wear. Trace of staple to the upper left corner, otherwise VG £600-900 The MBR-200 was the clandestine Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement ("Movimiento Bolivariano Revolucionario") founded in the early 80´s by Hugo Chavez and his former couple Herma Marksman, a History teacher. The Revolutionary Movement was inspired by Ezequiel Zamora (1817-1860) Venezuelan leader of the federalists, Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) Venezuela´s Liberator, and Simon Rodriguez (1769-1854) Venezuelan Philosopher and Bolivar´s mentor, who were known as the "Three Roots of the Tree". The present document was signed from Yare, where Chavez was arrested and imprisoned after his coup attempt on 4th February 1992. With provenance from the private collection of Herma Marksman. Herma Marksman: (1949- ) born of a peasant woman and a German immigrant she was in her 30s when she met the future Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, who was then married and in his twenties. She became his mistress. They both were students of socialism and idealistic and she helped him in his academic studies. After the failed 1992 coup attempt Chavez left both his first wife and mistress. Marksman will later repudiate Chavez, and described his government as imposing a "fascist dictatorship". She has written several essays and a book titled El Otro Chávez, "The other Chavez", describing her relationship with him.
