A Ralph Brown (1928-2013) bronze Leda sculpture, 1985, edition 5/7, 118cm long together with original invoice and signed letter from Ralph Brown Ralph Brown was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1928. After service in the RAF he studied at both the Leeds and Hammersmith School of Arts from 1948 to 1952. From 1952 to 1956 he attended The Royal College of Arts Sculpture School during which time he visited Paris, was struck by Robinswood and met Giacometti. Also during this period his first public exhibition in London took place at The "Young Contempories". In 1954 he studied at L'Academie de la Grande Chaumier, Paris and in 1955 he won the RCA Scholarship to Greece. His RCA thesis was on Robin and Medardo Rosso and upon graduation Ralph taught at Bournemouth College of Arts. He has lectured at the RCA, West of England College of Arts and other provincial art schools and in 1968 was elected a Royal Academic. Ralph Brown moved to the Cotswolds in 1963, where, apart from time spent abroad in Salzburg and South France, he has stayed ever since. He died in 2013.
