Shames and Private 1st Class Ed Tipper presented in a display box QTY: (2)NOTE:The print and helmet were produced in 1992 by the Military Gallery in a limited edition of 101 and shows the men of Easy Company, 101st Airborn, preparing to leave Upottery Airfield onboard C-47's which were scheduled to carry them into France on the night of 5 June 1944 ahead of the D-Day landings. They crossed the French coast in complete darkness, under heavy anti-aircraft fire, and parachuted into Normandy landing near the village of St.Mère Eglise. Their historic drop launched the first action of D-Day and spearheaded the mass landing of Allied forces.This particular edition of the print and helmet has been additionally signed and it seems likely the previous owner took them to America and military conventions.

His actions were to mark the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal Air Force and also as a demonstration against the minimal official recognition for his historic landmark. GEORGE III 'CHINESE CHIPPENDALE' MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR, IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS CHIPPENDALE MID 18TH the square back above a wide square seat flanked by fret carved arms, raised on square fret carved fore legs with pierced corner brackets, and squared slightly splayed rear legs, the blue patterned faille upholstery with close nail trim(69cm wide, 93cm high, 46cm deep)Note: The open fretwork of these chairs is typical of the 'Chinese manner' popularised by Thomas Chippendale and derive from Plates XXIII, XXIV and XXV of the First Edition of his Gentleman and Cabinet-maker's Director (1754). The fret-carving of the present chair relates to a design seen in Plate XXV. Chippendale's designs included open lattice-work backs, here though, the chair back has been fully upholstered. The symbol of luck, it has become an immediately recognisable signature of the renowned jewellery house and is probably the most easily wearable piece of high jewellery in existence. Although the use of flowers and clovers occurred often prior to the creation of the Alhambra, the simple line of the sautoir signalled a defining moment in style history both for Van Cleef & Arpels and for high jewellery in general.Delicate, sophisticated, and effortlessly stylish, the subtle yellow gold chain plays host to a series of yellow gold beaded silhouettes, each gently framing a selection of nature’s finest and most precious materials from white and grey mother-of-pearl, to malachite, carnelian, lapis lazuli, ivory and coral or, as exemplified here, all gold. It is an embodiment of the skilled lapidaries, jewellers, stone-setters and polishers whose craft makes the Alhambra so effortless and fluid.While the Alhambra has had many patrons, none has been more illustrious than the beautiful Princess Grace, or Grace Kelly as she was previously known. Although as a favoured muse of the house, she owned a virtual treasure trove of gems by Van Cleef & Arpels, her everyday jewellery box contained three Alhambra sautoirs. Interestingly, the malachite edition was limited to only 100 pieces due to the rarity of the material.
