Full leather eye mask, with slits to the eye pieces and a chain mail guard to the chin area. With original head strap. The following being direct from the family who have consigned this collection: ' Granddad Boyce joined the tank regiment at 16 yrs, he wanted to join the RAF but he was too young. He was a driver because he was so small and was in a tank with 5 others. He met my Gran in London . As traditional with this age group they never discussed this after the war. Granddad had 3 daughters, one of which was my mother. ' The family also had an article published in the East Anglian Daily Times ( http://www.eadt.co.uk/ea-life/flashback_a_wonderful_old_soldier_is_remembered_1_3040280 ) which reads: He served in the British Army of the Rhine with "B" Coy 16th Tank Battalion which he joined as a 16-year-old at Hilden. In the Second World War he served in the ARP in Bury St Edmunds. He then lived in Lower Baxter Street. He then went on to the West Suffolk Civil Defence Association until it was abandoned. He loved the parades and was always ready to help where it was needed. He was a porter at Boots Chemist until he retired at the age of 70. A copy of the article is included in the collection. A rare and interesting piece of First World War history.
