[Situationists] Guy Debord, Le Jeu de la Guerre (Board game), 1977 Paris, Les Jeux stratégiques et historiques, 1977. White cardboard box with black printed title, 37 x 29 x 3.5 cm. First commercial edition (in unknown, yet small number) produced by Debord and the French movie producer Gérard Lebovici, after a metal version was made in an edition of 3 or 4 copies.The box contains a game board consisting of a sheet of thin white felt printed with a map of black and white squares, letters and numbers, folding out to 49.5 x 55.5 cm; 34 round-shaped wooden game pieces printed with letters and a booklet with game rules, 21.5 x 26 cm, 23 pp. Aim of the game is to completely destroy the enemy and his arsenal, based on strategic war theories of Clausewitz. The box has moderate age toning, two corners are torn, else in good condition. Very rare. In 1987, Alice Becker-Ho and Guy Debord released the book Le Jeu de la Guerre that illustrates Debord's game, published by Editions Gerard Lebovici. Several versions including computer games have appeared since.

First edition, printed in 500 copies on the occasion of Ivekovic's one-woman show in the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. Staples show moderate rust, dog-ears lower right, else a fine copy. Momentous and scarce artists' book. Sanja Ivelovic (1949, Zagreb) was one of the first feminist artists to emerge from the former Yugoslavia’s experimental art scene of the 1970s. In 'Tragedy of a Venus' she presents a selection of tabloid photos of Marilyn Monroe juxtaposed with similarly composed snapshots of the artist herself, offering a reflection on the prescribed ideals of femininity by Hollywood/consumer images.

[Women Artists] Carolee Schneemann, ABC- We Print Anything - In The Cards Beuningen (NL), Brummense Uitgeverij Van Luxe Werkjes, 1977. First edition. Handmade blue cloth box, 11 x 30.5 x 5 cm, featuring a gold-stamped title, tied with a ribbon. Contains 156 printed index cards of various colours, each text card accompanied by an image card. The work documents the turbulent relationship between the artist, her soon-to-be-ex Anthony McCall and her new lover Bruce McPherson.Intended as a multimedia performance piece, Schneemann read the cards aloud to an audience while images were projected on a screen behind her. The performance was staged at Franklin Furnace in New York, in November 1976, followed by a series of performances at De Appel in Amsterdam in 1977. As usual with this multiple it has some mixed up cards, as the publisher was rather careless about filling the boxes. This copy has 1 double text card (36), and 2 missing text cards (102 and 120). Officially made in an edition of 151, though less copies were actually assembled. Box and ribbon show slight fading, indexcards are mint. Extremely rare.

Signed, dated 19 Oct. 79 on the first page with an inscription 'Dear Bob, Dear Marilyn, in our kyak and with Charlie, love loves Carolee'. Dust-jacket features soiling and a few closed tears, losses and areas of skinning. The interior is very good with mild age toning.

Featured are conceptual art and visual poetry contributions by artists such as Marina Abramovic, Christian Boltanski, Valie Export, John Baldessari, herman de vries, Anna Banana et al, with some original prints and a tipped-in colour photo by Luigi Ontani. A collection of 56 cards, 9.7 x 14.4 cm, rubber stamped on recto, housed in the original transparent plastic bag. First edition of 200. This issue of mailart magazine Common Press was guest edited by Aart van Barneveld and contains rubber-stamped portraits made by over fifty international artists including Anna Banana, Vittore Baroni, Paulo Bruscky, Ulises Carrión, Robin Crozier, Bob Gaglione, György Galántai, Johan van Geluwe, Klaus Groh, E. F. Higgins, Raul Marroquin, G. E. Marx Vigo, Michele Perfetti, Pawel Petasz, Guy Schraenen. The index on verso of the title card lists 56 portrait cards, this collection lacks No.55 and No.56. All cards and the original plastic bag are in rare mint condition. Scarce.

[Small Press and Concrete Poetry] Complete set of Utopia, Bi-monthly magazine for scientific entertainment Tweemaandelijks tijdschrift voor wetenschappelijk amusement. Contains Numbers 1-10 (1975-1978) plus the special boxed edition on architect J.M. JUJOL. Edited by Hans Oldewarris, Hans Kamphuis, Jan Pesman and Peter de Winter, published in Delft. The periodical focused on innovative and creative design with a humorous twist. Its design and format varied with each (themed) issue, but often featured inserts and mounted objects. The first 3 numbers were made in an edition of 300, numbers 4 and 5 in an edition of 500, then it slowly rose to 2000 copies. The famous Typewriter issue (No.8) has contributions by Dutch authors W.F. Hermans, Rudy Kousbroek and Piet Grijs, and comes with samples of carbon-paper and correction-foil. The copy in this lot contains the original illustrated sending envelope. The JUJOL limited edition in a cardboard box (November 1976), includes a building plate and Do It Yourself kit with glue and paint. It is numbered 487/500 and in mint state. All copies in this rare complete set of Utopia are in fine condition. (total 11)

Confectionery.- Abbot (Robert) The Housekeeper's valuable present: or, lady's closet companion. Being a new and complete art of preparing confects, according to modern practice, first edition, woodcut floral tail-pieces, mostly marginal browning to a few ff. (including title), some spotting or light staining, contemporary calf, sympathetically rebacked in modern calf, gilt, corners restored, covers rubbed and marked, [Cagle 528; Maclean p.1; Oxford p.126; Simon BG 1], 8vo, Printed for the author; and sold by C. Cooke, no. 17, Pater-Noster Row; and all other booksellers in town and country, [c.1790].⁂ Rare at auction. We can trace only two copies since 1969. Institutional holdings are also scarce. The title tells us that Abbot had been an apprentice at the leading confectioners Negri & Gunter of Berkeley Square. Provenance: 'Sarah Olive, Book 1794' (ink inscription to front free endpaper).

Pressure cooker.- Papin (Denis) La manière d'amolir les os, et de faire cuire toutes sortes de viandes en fort peu de temps, & à peu de frais, 2 parts in 1, 4 folding engraved plates of the cooker, blue ink writing erased from title (a very small area remains over 1 word (still legible)), first plate with repaired tear, without loss, occasional professional marginal repairs, occasional spotting / light staining, washed, later drab wrappers, strengthened, housed in a modern dark red morocco chemise and slip-case, gilt, [Bitting p.355 (note); Notaker 630 (note); Vicaire 652; cf. Cagle 369 & Livres en bouche 91 & Oberlé 89 (first edition in French)], 12mo, Amsterdam, Henry Desbordes, 1688.⁂ Second edition in French, which is more complete than the first. On Papin's steam digester, which was a forerunner of the pressure cooker. He presented his idea to the Royal Society in 1679 after working with Robert Boyle over the previous three years. The work was first published in England in 1681 as A New Digester, or Engine for softning bones, with a continuation in 1687. His experiments with this apparatus led to his development of steam engines.

It is presumed that the Lyon issue of this work takes precedence, as the original privilege, which was granted to Thomas Amaulry of that city, is found in the Paris issue.
