It was originally published in 1753 as The Young Woman's Companion. ESTC records only four copies of this edition (all in America or Canada), and Library Hub adds a copy at Leeds University. Includes carving, pickling, and pastry & confectionery. As with another copy consulted the pagination of the preliminaries is as follows: [2], ii, [1], vi-xiii [i.e xiv, the recto of final f. thus numbered].Provenance: 'E. Guertz, 1754' (ink inscription to verso of portrait); loosely inserted letter from Sub-Librarian of Brotherton, Leeds to bookseller Mike McKirdy regarding their copy of the work. It is interesting to note that in the preliminaries of their copy the pagination also skips from ii to vi.

Crahan copy.- Kellet (Susanna, Elizabeth & Mary) A Complete collection of cookery receipts, (consisting of near four hundred,) which have been taught upwards of fifty years, with great reputation, first edition, dedication f. to the attendees of the Kellet's cookery school, list of subscribers, a few small marginal repairs, including to title, some water-staining, mostly at end, spotting and staining (including title), lightly browned, 6 later ink manuscript recipes loosely inserted, antique style pale calf, gilt, spine in compartments and with double red morocco labels, [Bitting p.256; Maclean p.79], 8vo, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Printed by T. Saint; and sold by W. Charnley, Whitfield and Co. and all the booksellers in town and country, 1780.⁂ Rare. Aside from this Crahan copy and that of Hroar Dege-Book for Cooks we can trace no others at auction. The authors, perhaps a mother and two daughters, or three sisters, ran a cookery school in the North of England. Provenance: Marcus Crahan, sold Sotheby's 9 & 10th October, 1984, lot 344 (bookplate), and again as the Crahan-Keck Day copy, Sotheby's, 25th November, 1986, lot 267, since which time the modern boards have been replaced by our binding; Mary Chadsey (bookplate).

The last copy at auction we can trace was in 2010. Kitchiner (1775-1827), optician, cook, and best-selling food writer. He travelled around with his 'portable cabinet of taste', which contained his mustards and sauces, and himself created 'Wow-Wow Sauce'. The present work contains one of the earliest recipes for what we now know as 'crisps' ('Potatoes fried in Slices or Shavings').

Piston loading.No box.Dimensions: 14.02 cm length; 10.2 mm diameter.This Elysee Parthenon fountain pen in blue lacquer. It belongs to the Parthenon series, in which the brand produced fountain pens in different colours and motifs. The barrel is made of gold-plated steel with blue lacquer and gold details. Élysée's Chinese lacquer process has several steps, the first of which is to engrave the body of the pen with impressions that are then filled with lacquer up to the surface of the pen. The lacquer is then inlaid into these impressions and the surface is polished to make it smooth and flush. Once completely smooth, the exposed metal is plated. Two-tone 18 Kts. gold nib, F-point.

There is a spilt running up the lower left hand edge of the front binding and there is another on the very edge of the spine on the bottom back corner. Spine is very faded. No inscriptions, stickers or such like. There is a small tear to page 8. Some discolouration to the edges of the pages and a couple of small dog ears (not through deliberate folding).
