"Hall's book... describes... his explorations in the little known eastern seas, and his visit to Canton (Guangzhou). The naval operations in China refer to the First Opium War.

Voyages.- Cruise of Her Majesty's Ship "Bacchante" 1879-1882 (The), 2 vol., first edition, half-titles, plates and maps, presentation ink inscription to half-titles, some light foxing, mainly to vol. 1, hinges a little weak or cracked, original pictorial cloth, gilt, spines a little toned, ends bumped (vol. 1 head slightly torn), t.e.g., 8vo, 1886.⁂ Compiled from the private journals, letters and note-books of Prince Albert Victor and Prince George of Wales, with additions by John N. Dalton. Provenance: ink inscriptions, "Vice Admiral G. W. Walton from George. Bermuda April 20th 1891". This inscription is from George Frederick Albert Ernest, later King George V, who served for many years in Royal Navy.
