South America.- Falkner (Thomas) A Description of Patagonia and the adjoining parts of South America first edition engraved map by Thomas Kitchin on 2 sheets as issued short tear to each some soiling and marginal staining modern green morocco-backed marbled boards 4to Hereford C.Pugh 1774. *** Falkner was a surgeon on a slave ship who became seriously ill and was nursed back to health by Jesuits in Buenos Aires. He subsequently became a Jesuit missionary in Paraguay and Tucuman also acting as a physician.
