The Great Train Robbery - 'Former Soldier Seeks Employment' by John Miller (who kidnapped Ronnie Biggs from Rio in 1981 in an attempt to get him back to the UK to face trial), unique signed copy of Miller's autobiography. Signed by Biggs (1929-2013) in black ink to the title page. Hardcover, first edition with dust jacket. Due to the relationship between Biggs and Miller (Kidnapee and kidnapper), he flat refused to ever sign anything to do with the event, and it took the vendor years to convince Biggs to sign the book, eventually succeeding. This is the only copy of the book that Biggs ever signed.  The Great Train Robbery was the robbery of £2.6 million from a Royal Mail train heading from Glasgow to London on the West Coast Main Line in the early hours of 8 August 1963, at Bridego Railway Bridge, Ledburn, near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England. After tampering with the lineside signals in order to bring the train to a halt, a gang of fifteen, led by Bruce Reynolds, attacked the train. Other gang members included Gordon Goody, Buster Edwards, Charlie Wilson, Roy James, John Daly, Danny Pembroke, Jimmy White, Ronnie Biggs, Tommy Wisbey, Jim Hussey, Bob Welch and Roger Cordrey, as well as three men known only as numbers "1", "2" and "3". A 16th man, an unnamed retired train driver, was also present. With careful planning based on inside information from an individual known as "The Ulsterman" (erroneously named as Patrick McKenna in 2014), the robbers escaped with over £2.6 million (equivalent to £53.5 million today). The bulk of the stolen money was never recovered. Though the gang did not use any firearms, Jack Mills, the train driver, was beaten over the head with a metal bar. Mills' injuries were severe enough to end his career. After the robbery, the gang hid at Leatherslade Farm and famously used the money in a game of Monopoly - unwittingly incriminating themselves whilst doing so as the Monopoly set was used to garner finger prints of the suspects and was instrumental in the Police arresting most of the gang. The ringleaders were sentenced to 30 years in jail.

Lot 484

All obtained personally by the vendor. B4 Robert Taylor "Steinhoff Tribute" Ltd. Edition signed by General Johannes Steinhoff KC with Oak Leaves and Swords. This print is from the original Limited Edition number 233 / 1250 published in 1994 and is supplied with the original Certificate of Authenticity. The print is signed by the artist, Robert Taylor, and General Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff (1913 - 1994) who was a Luftwaffe fighter ace during World War II, German general, and NATO official. He was one of very few Luftwaffe pilots who survived to fly operationally through the whole of the war period 1939-45. Steinhoff was also one of the highest-scoring pilots with 176 victories, and one of the first to fly the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter in combat as a member of the Jagdverband 44 squadron led by Adolf Galland. The print measures approximately 84cm x 64cm (33 inches x 25. 25 inches) and has been stored flat, out of the light and is in very. Print Historical Detail: A unique limited edition published in tribute to one of the Luftwaffe's highest scoring Aces, and greatest fighter leaders. Macky Steinhoff in action over the White Cliffs of Dover. It is August, and the height of the Battle of Britain: Heinkel 111 bombers have attacked airfields and radar stations along the south coast, and a frantic dog-fight has developed as Bf109s of JG-52 clash with Hurricanes of the RAF's No. 32 Squadron. Macky's Bf109E, which dominates the picture, provides a magnificently detailed study of this superlative fighter, as he and his fellow Luftwaffe pilots do their best to protect the retreating Heinkels. Below is a wonderful panoramic aerial view of Dover Harbour, the legendary White Cliffs, and the carefully researched landscape showing the south-eastern tip of the British Isles as it was in 1940. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £4.99, EU from £6.99, Rest of World from £8.99

B6 Robert Taylor "First of Many" Special Edition Douglas Bader Tribute Print signed by 4 highly decorated RAF Fighter Aces all of whom flew in The Battle of Britain. This is a framed Special Edition Douglas Bader Tribute print limited to 600 copies published in 1981 and is supplied with the original Certificate of Authenticity. The print is signed by the artist, Robert Taylor and by four famous RAF Fighter Aces that flew Hurricanes and Spitfires with Douglas Bader during the Battle of Britain in 1940 these being Air Commodore Pat 'Jamie' Jameson CB DSO DFC, Wing Commander Bob Stanford-Tuck DSO DFC & 2 Bars, Group Captain Duncan Smith DSO DFC AE and Group Captain Peter Townsend CVO DSO DFC & Bar. The print is framed and overall measures approximately 67cm x 53cm (26. 5 inches x 21 inches) and is in very with no sign of any fading. Print Historical Detail: Just after 7am on the morning of 11 July 1940, the phone rang in the dispersal hut of 242 Squadron. "Bandit approaching Cromer. Can you get a section off?" The new squadron commander, Douglas Bader, peered into the driving rain. "No! The weather is too bad. I'll go myself. "In terrible conditions, he scrambled his new Hurricane alone, climbing into thick, turbulent cloud where he spotted a Dornier 17. Hauling his Hurricane around, Bader brought his guns to bear managing several bursts before the enemy bomber disappeared into the murk. It was not until Bader landed that he learned the Dornier had crashed into the sea off Cromer. It was 242 Squadron's first victory of the war and the First of Many achieved by the squadron and its mercurial commander. Each print in this special Tribute Edition is signed by four famous RAF Fighter Aces that flew Hurricanes and Spitfires with Douglas Bader in the Battle of Britain in 1940.
