1995 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Mille Miglia Transmission: automaticMileage:55200These days, Mercedes has not released too many limited edition models outside of their in house tuning arm, AMG. Before the days of AMG proliferation, Mercedes would release a special edition model from time to time, such as this 1995 SL500 Mille Miglia. Built to commemorate Stirling Moss’s win of the historic 1955 Mille Miglia road race. This R129, available as an SL320 or SL500, was available only in brilliant Silver Metallic, equipped with Evo II six-spoke polished alloys and a red and black leather interior complemented by carbon fibre trim. The side bumper grilles were also given a rather unique chequered flag treatment that, upon close inspection, is a clever collection of chrome squares.This right hand drive example has covered a mere 55,200 miles from new and is presented in absolutely fantastic overall condition. Boasting just one former keeper, it was supplied by Cruickshank Mercedes of Bristol to its first owner in September 1995 who enjoyed the car for 19 years. It was then sold to the second owner by Mercedes-Benz Bristol as a used approved car in 2014. Options fitted to the vehicle are auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, automatic air conditioning, electric/heated front seats, rear seats with seat belts and headlamp cleaning system. The car is described by the vendor as ‘in excellent all-round condition with everything working and it drives as it should’. Remarkably, true to the original design, the 'Avantime', built by Matra, was a genuine mould-breaker that offered a luxurious cabin. Add to this an option to specify the highly capable three litre, V6 engine, the Avantime really delivered a truly exciting motoring experience.First registered to Renault UK Ltd., each 'prestige' dealership was allocated a showcase Avantime. 1970 Ford Escort Mk. I Twin Cam Ex-Hannu Mikkola Transmission: manualMileage:78240The Mk. I Ford Escort was introduced in Ireland and the UK at the end of 1967, making its show debut at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1968. It replaced the successful, long-running Ford Anglia. The front suspension and steering gear were differently configured, and the brakes were fitted with dual hydraulic circuits; also the wheels fitted on the Genk-built Escorts had wider rims. At the beginning of 1970, continental European production transferred to a new plant on the edge of Saarlouis, West Germany. They were hailed as an immediate success both domestically on the roads and for motor sport, particularly rallying. A higher performance version for rallies and racing was available, the Escort Twin Cam, which was built for Group 2 international rallying. It had an engine with a Lotus-made eight-valve twin camshaft head fitted to the 1.5 litre non-crossflow block, which had a bigger bore than usual to give a capacity of 1,558cc. This engine had originally been developed for the Lotus Elan. The Mk. I Escorts were incredibly successful and they eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time.This rare and historically interesting ex-Ford Works rally car was driven in period by Hannu Mikkola at the Rally of Cyprus in October 1970 and also in period by the British rally star Roger Clark although he didn’t compete in the car (as pictured in the book ‘The Works Escorts’ Second Edition by Graham Robson). The car was first registered in February 1970 and was sold (shown in a used vehicle brochure) as an ex-Works car on 30th June 1972. The car still has the same registration from new which is recorded in its original buff logbook and again confirmed in the present logbook. This car is depicted in various magazines and Works Escort books being rallied by the sporting luminaries mentioned and has been in storage for most of its latter-day life, forming part of a small private collection presently. This car is known by the AVO Club who inspected and valued it in 2011 confirming its provenance. 1988 Jaguar XJRS Le Mans Coupé Transmission: automaticMileage:22944The Jaguar XJS design, codenamed XJ27, started around 1965 with the first production car being sold in 1975. It was primarily designed by Malcolm Sayer with input and control from Sir William Lyons. Although the public assumed the Jaguar XJS was a successor to the very popular E-Type it was in fact intended to be very different. It would be comfortable and luxurious, less a sports car than a sports tourer. This allowed it to use the same suspension layout as the recently introduced and supremely cosseting Jaguar XJ6. Externally the Jaguar XJS is most noticeable for its ‘flying buttresses’, sweeping from the top of the rear roofline down to the rear of the wings. It also gave the quite large Jaguar XJS an excellent drag coefficient, better than the E-Type and allowing the XJS easily to attain over 150mphThis stunning, limited edition, XJRS was originally registered on 25th August 1988 and is a bespoke model produced by JaguarSport and Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) Group to commemorate the marques triumph at Le Mans in 1988. Only 100 examples were built, this is number 22 and appears to be in original condition. Finished in Tungsten metallic with a cream Connolly leather interior, a burr walnut dashboard and sitting on the correct 15” JaguarSport alloy wheels. Standard equipment on these luxurious grand tourers includes electric seats with lumbar support, air conditioning and cruise control. This example is fitted with an original trip computer and Jaguar radio system. This extremely low mileage example is still sporting the original coachlines bearing the 1988 race winning XJR-9, this is a great indication of originality. The car is supplied with a V5C registration document showing only one previous keeper and an MoT test certificate valid until July 2021.The car has benefitted from a recent service and the rebuilding of the brake calipers. The verses include reprimands addressed to heavy sleepers, dancers, the idle, the debauched, and prattlers.
