1911 Bradbury `Speed` 3½hp Single 554cc/Registration no. TPP 345/This machine was restored by Pete Sole, a well-known and respected restorer of Classic and Sports motorcycles until his death in March of this year. He purchased this machine in 2008 and the story that accompanied it was that it had been the gift from a father to son upon the latter`s safe return from the trenches of the 1st World War; when Pete chanced upon it, it had been stored for many years in a garden shed and although intact, required sensitive restoration. The Bradbury 3½hp single was launched in 1909 and had the unusual design of its crankcase integral (or `brazed`) within its frame, from 1911 onwards it was manufactured in `Standard` and `Speed` forms with a variety of options and was marketed by the company as `the finest hill climber ever made`. The entire restoration project took Pete Sole less than nine months and his Bradbury won titles at Malvern and Stafford shows in its first year of public outings./This machine featured in an article in The Classic Motorcycle January 2010 edition and our thanks go to Mortons Archive for their image and information/see illustration

Autographs – Paul Valery – League of Nations The Palace of the League of Nations by Louis Cheronnet Paris: L’Illustration 1938. Folio. 72 pages. First edition. An illustrated book on the Palace of the League of Nations in Geneva. Sections of the large beaux art building were designed by many different architects emblematic of the good and bad points of the League itself. Included are several proposed designs which were not used. Illustrated in colour and black and white. This was a souvenir presentation to Miss K J Stafford who served the League of Nations from 1919-1939 and inside the front cover is tipped in six folio leaves bearing a considerable number of signatures of the League’s Secretariat. Included is an autograph sentiment by the French writer and philosopher Paul Valery who was a French Representative at the League. This volume thus provides a unique compilation of signatures of the people who were operating the League at its very end. Formed in 1919 as an attempt to ensure that the world never again fell into a World War the League became defunct in December 1939 after the activities of Hitler and Mussolini rendered its high ideals totally irrelevant. Its failure however led to the eventual establishment of the United Nations.
