Peasants' Revolt.- [Cleveland (John)] The Idol of the Clownes, Or, Insurrection of Wat the Tyler, ?first edition, bookplate, contemporary ink ownership inscription to head of title, a couple small marginal chips, occasional light dust-soiling, but a very good copy overall, later half calf, red morocco label to spine, lightly rubbed, [Wing C4672], 12mo, 1654.⁂ One of two editions of this account of the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 published in 1654, this one with 148pp., the other with 154pp. and an engraved portrait called for by ESTC.

Architecture.- Copenhagen.- Thurah (Laurids de) Hafnia hodierna eller Udforlig Beskrivelse om den Kongelige Residente- og Hoved-Stad Kiobenhaven, first edition, title and text in Danish, French and German, engraved frontispiece incorporating the arms of Copenhagen, 110 plates (including a large folding panorama), and charming vignette head- and tail-pieces, frontispiece trimmed to border and laid down, some spotting or foxing, occasional mostly light staining, lightly browned, contemporary calf, richly gilt spine in compartments and with leather label, joints starting, but holding firm, foot of spine little chipped, rubbed and marked, scuffed, with small areas of loss to leather at foot, [Berlin Kat. 2260; Bruun II, 606], 4to, Copenhagen, Ernst Henrich Berling, 1748.⁂ Laurids de Thurah (1706-1759) was the foremost architect in Denmark during the reign of Christian VI (1730-1746). He received a military education and studied in Germany and Italy, where he was attracted to the large scale baroque and the decorative possibilities offered by the rococo. His most original work was the famous spiral tower added to Lambert van Haven's Our Saviour Church at Christianshavn in 1749-1752, inspired by Boromini's work in Rome. Thurah retired in 1750 to the mediaeval abbey at Borgumkloster, which he rebuilt with larger windows and gables. (see T. Faber, A History of Danish Architecture, Copenhagen, 1978).

Spain.- [d'Aulnoy (Marie Catherine)] Relation du Voyage, 3 vol. in 1, ?second edition, divisional titles, each with woodcut device, woodcut head- and tail-pieces, ink ownership inscription to first title, bookplate, contemporary speckled calf, joints cracking but firm, spine ends chipped, 16mo, The Hague, Henri van Bulderen, 1691.⁂ Madame d'Aulnoy (1650/1651-1705) was a renowned French writer of her day. In exile from Paris due to treason charges against her then husband the Baron, and possibly working as an intelligence agent, she lived across Europe for many years. On returning to Paris she published "historical" novels, travel based "memoirs", and collections of fairy and adventure tales. These last were her most popular, and predating the Grimm Brothers by more than a century, it was she that originated the term "fairy tale", calling her collections, "contes de fées". Her writing helped support herself and children. This edition published the same year as the first in Paris by Claude Barbin.

This first appearance of Inspector Morse was first dramatized as a radio play by the BBC on Radio 4 in 1975 and was adapted for television in 1988 as part of the series Inspector Morse, first aired on 22 March 1988.

He feels that his artistic talents stem from his grandfather, who hailed from Portugal and who painted for most of his life. Smith's early interest in painting and art was matched by a passion for horses, so that as a child he always aspired to being an equestrian artist and his first drawing was of a horse. He attended the Carlisle and then the Glasgow School of Art and acknowledges that he admires a broad spectrum of artists, taking his inspiration from such diverse masters as Degas and Munnings. Peter Smith lives near Ayr, where the open landscape creates a perfect atmosphere in which to find his inspiration. Peter Smith's original works and limited edition publications are much sought after and his artwork graces art collections worldwide.

The authors trace the "Carrera legend" back to its beginnings, describe all the earlier Carrera models, and provide a brief introduction to the development of the 911 as a sports car. The chapters on the developmental background of the Carrera RS, on its technical specifications, and a detailed review of its standard and special-order equipment can be considered to be the heart of the book. A further section covers the technical aspects and the racing history of the competition model RSR. It took three years of research activities to finish up this book and Porsche opened its extensive archives and provided access to relevant internal communications. The script is supplemented with comprehensive photographs, most of them appearing in print for the first time. The work is concluded with a complete list of each 1,580 Carreras built, with their individual production data including the original colour, equipment and specially ordered extras. Thus, it is the ideal reference work for aficionados, collectors and restorers. The 256 page book had been published in an English and German version. Both editions were numbered and limited to 3,000 copies each." Bound in red linen with a green linen slipcase, this collectible book quickly sold out when new, and is now rarely available.
