The two ALS from Sackville-West reveal their friendship, responding to Christmas gifts sent, 'What a pretty, original premiere Communion angel!' and discussing family, 'My Italian daughter-in-law, who is here for Christmas, exclaimed that she was squisita, and that's just what she is. Only it sounds better in Italian than in our awkward English word, exquisite.', each 2pp., dated December 23rd, 1955 and December 24th, 1961.

"In the years leading up to the conflict in England Cotton had begun to preach on the coming of the millennium. He expounded this theme in a series of prophetic weekday lectures in Boston between 1639 and 1640, published as An Exposition upon the Thirteenth Chapter of the Revelation (1655), followed in the next year by The Powring out of the Seven Vials (1642) and The Churches Resurrection (1642). Fielding (Henry) Amelia, 4 vol., first edition, second state with line 4 corrected on p.191 of vol.3, but vol.1 still with first state dropped pagination on p.22, vol.1 lacking final blank but with advertisement leaf at end of vol.2 (often lacking), vol.1 with very light water-staining at beginning and end (mostly marginal) and B12 reinforced at inner margin, F7 in vol.2 with tiny paper flaw to foot causing loss of signature, small marginal stain to foot of H2v and H3r, otherwise a good clean set in contemporary (?continental) speckled boards with gilt-stamped pink paper labels, red speckled edges, rubbed, small nick to label of vol.3, corners a little bumped or worn, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box, [Rothschild 853],12mo, for A.Millar, 1752.⁂ The author's final novel, rarely found in boards. It is regarded as the first novel of social protest, concerning issues such as poverty and prisons, and was an influence on Dickens.

By Mr. Yorick, 2 vol., first edition, vol.1 variant 2 with "vous" on p.150 and vol.2 variant 1 "who have" on last line of p.133, half-titles, list of subscribers, with the rare loosely inserted advertisement leaf bound after title in vol.1 (usually lacking), engraved coat-of-arms in text, very lightly browned, vol.1 also with engraved portrait of Jens Baggesen bound in as frontispiece and note in pencil "Baggesinian" and another in Danish on front free endpaper, engraved bookplate of Lord Gray, contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, spines gilt in compartments with red and tan morocco labels, rubbed, spines a little worn, repairs to joints and spine ends, preserved in modern marbled board slip-case, tan morocco label "Baggesiniana. Yorick's Labyrint" on spine, [Rothschild 1972], small 8vo, for T.Becket and P.A. de Hondt, 1768.⁂ Jens Baggesen (18764-1826), Danish writer who was greatly influenced by Sterne. His poem Labyrinten is reflected in the label "Yorick's Labyrint" on the spine of the slip-case, a delightful obfuscation by the Danish owner combining Baggesen's title with Sterne's.
