1ST REGIMENT OF FOOT OR THE ROYAL SCOTS OTHER RANKS SHAKO 1812-1816. A good quality period item, in plain black stout felt, the false front (19.4cm) is bound around the top with black braid (1.4cm) and at the base with similar braid (2.4cm), similar braid around the body (1.4cm). The height of the body is (14cm) and is (18.8cm) across the crown. The peak unbound. The thin gauge brass die-stamped plate of standard outline but bears the special badges authorised to the regiment, (not removable for inspection). The plaited green festoon is of the wrong material and is a replacement. The black braid Hanoverian cockade (a probable replacement) bears a plain (dented) button. The buff leather sweatband and cartridge type paper lining later replacements (perhaps mid 19th century). Two labels state that this shako was once in the 'Jeanne Sully Collection, Fontainbleau' and the "Musee Cotton 1909", considerable wear and mothing commensurate with age, the false front braid patched in places. The shako requires careful restoration and conservation.

Henry, Prince of Wales, c. 1636, a silver draughtsman’s or gaming counter consisting of, on the obv., a counter from a set imitating the style of S. de Passe, viz. full-length figure standing right and holding lance, within garter inscribed illustr henricus princeps uualliæ, lion and unicorn in borders, 30mm (MI –), on the rev. a unicorn left on a small shield in an elaborate foliage border with putti to left and right and a cherub’s head facing below, 36mm; the obverse counter is set in a silver ring, the larger reverse plate attached with four rivets, overall diameter 42mm, 31.07g/12h (cf. Spink Auction 194, lot 8). About very fine, a most unusual item, almost certainly contemporary and quite probably UNIQUE £300-£400 --- Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales (1594-1612), eldest son of James I, is remembered today as ‘an ideal Renaissance prince’. He spent heavily on buildings and gardens at St James’s and Richmond Palaces, yet was also passionately interested in military affairs and horses. He and his brother Charles, later to become Charles I, were the first members of the royal family to develop an interest in coins. His unexpected death at the age of 18 was keenly felt.

Preclassic Maya seated whistle figure, Chalchuapa type, 500-200 BCE, Buff earthenware, solid and hollow sections, hand- modeled with applique, incising and punctate technique. 6.50"H. Dieterly, Homosassa springs , FL This is a unique, solid buff clay figure. The androgynous, child-like seated figure shows a pair of feline ears at the top of it's head along with fang-shaped projections at each shoulder and indicates the Chalchuapa Maya culture maintained the infant-jaguar connection which was a hallmark of both the earlier Olmec and later Classic Maya periods in Mesoamerica. The whistle mechanism is fully functional and emits a clear, somewhat breathy single note tone.
