FOOTBALL INTEREST: SCOTLAND INTERNATIONAL NO 6 JERSEY SIGNED BY JIM BAXTER said to have been worn by Jim Baxter for Scotland v England 1961-62 Provenance: Previously offered at Christie's, Glasgow, 1992 This jersey was worn by Scottish football legend, Jim Baxter, in Scotland's 2-0 win over England at Hampden in 1962. It has been on display at the Scottish Football Museum since 2012, is considered to be one of the rarest pieces of Scottish football memorabilia to come to auction in recent years. Coming a year on from Scotland's 9-3 thrashing at the hands of the Auld Enemy at Wembley, the 1962 game was Baxter's first match against England. The game was played in front of 132,000 spectators and Baxter put in a brilliant display during the 2-0 victory. The jersey is being put up for sale by a lifelong Scotland fan who bought the item in 1992 and had it signed by Baxter in 1993. The importance of the top as a piece of footballing memorabilia was underlined when it was displayed at the Scottish Football Museum in 2012 and then included as one of the star attractions in the 'More than a Game' exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in 2013.

An extremely rare WWII German Schluesselgeraet SG-41Z encrypting machine, with operating handle and metal cover. It appears to have been recovered from underwater, cleaned, and partially restored to exhibition standard. Small items, such as screws and springs, have been replaced, and it is possible that small parts may be missing. The original metal base with the carrying handle is missing, and has been replaced with a flat metal base for display purposes. The metal cover is at present detached in order to expose the mechanism. See front cover Note: The SG 41 was intended to supersede the Enigma machine. The development began in 1941 at the Warderwerke typewriter company in Chemnitz. Once in production Hitler’s cryptographers wanted to replace the Enigma en masse, but by this time there were apparently tens of thousands of them in service. In 1944 the German Supreme Command ordered 10,000 of the SG-41 (11,000 according to some sources) and 2,000 of the SF-41Z, of which the one on offer is an example. The SG-41Z was produced for the Luftwaffe weather service and differed from the SG-41 in having a 10 digit keyboard instead of the 26 letter keyboard of the SG-41. In the event only 500 (100 according to some sources, 1,000 according to others) of the SG-41 were delivered, and presumably correspondingly less of the SG-41Z. Apparently some machines were dumped in the sea to prevent them falling into the hands of the Allies, several others in a freshwater lake from which they were recently recovered, and one was retrieved from the wreck of a sunken U boat. It is believed that there are only about 10 examples in existence worldwide, although it is not clear whether this refers to both types, or just the SG-41Z. In any event it is an extremely rare item.
