This book is 8" x 10" and is full on every page with coloured pictures of scenes of buildings and events in London and many full-page advertisements procured by the Savoy Hotel. A wonderful insight into life in London at the time. This item was prepared on the cusp of WWI and illustrates in full detail the social and business life of London just prior to the catastrophic war. This lot contains 5 items Item 1- Diary for 1904 alliance Assurance Co Ltd. 3" x 4¼". A small diary with entries of the activities of the owner throughout 1904 in legible handwriting. Excellent condition in thick card covers. Item 2 - A bound volume 4½" by 7" of a "Private Diary" from September 1915 to April 1916. An interesting notebook of 100 plus pages of a diary kept, probably, by a young lady who writes the following entry: "In Canterbury, almost every soldier you set eyes upon is a mere boy - absolutely - and some of them - Oh well - What I meant to say was it is perfectly atrocious to think of these boys being killed so young. Heaps of them are only 16 and some 15, like George Luland, but still we must trust God and believe what he does is all for the good in the end." The writer of this diary would appear to live in Kent. An interesting diary of a civilian's attitude to the First World War. A unique item. Excellent condition. Item 3 - C & J Penny's Improved Diary 1927 No 10. A large 19th century Wedgwood-style jasperware cheese dome and base, the dome with acorn finial decorated with applied white Classical figures, scene and trailing grape vines, marked with a date cypher to the base '1/88' (18), height approx. 23cm, diameter of base 31cm.Condition Report: There is an old firing crack to the top of the lid, which does not appear to go to the inside. There is a small rim chip to the inside top rim of the plate. With wear, there may be some tiny rim chips to the underside. Otherwise a good, impressive item.
