-Click here to bid - 1953 Daimler Conquest 2.5 ‘Genuine Barn Find’ Reg.no. Unknown Chassis no. D82999 Engine no. 75133 This Daimler was recently re-commissioned following 20 years of storage in a barn in South Gloucestershire. Originally supplied by a Daimler dealer in Wells, Somerset, it was owned by a Clevedon surgeon, after which it has had only four local owners, the last of whom owned the car for 35 years. The re-commissioning involved fitting a new Lucas heavy duty battery, cleaning the pugs and priming the petrol pump and the engine now runs well. The four speed ‘pre-selector’ gearbox works perfectly and our vendor describes the car as ‘running as she did 60 years ago’. During the last 20 years a replacement dynamo, fuse box and cut out have been fitted. The bodywork and panels all appear sound and remarkably rust free. The interior is all original and the green leather upholstery is very good considering the age. The only significant item which requires replacement is the internal bonnet release cable. Further re-commissioning is recommended in respect of cleaning the brakes etc., but this presents a very straightforward opportunity to start classic car motoring without major expenditure. It comes with an original jack, a starting handle, and a wheel brace. It was purchased by the present owner in May 2013 in order to obtain the Somerset registration number, but a replacement has yet to be applied for. Estimate: £850 – 1,000

Hondius, Jodocus 1619 Virginiae Item et Floridae Americae Provinciarum, Nova Descriptio This stunning map was compiled from two of the most important source maps of the early colonial period: John White`s Virginia and Jacques le Moyne`s Florida. Hondius` map became the prototype map of the region for the first half of the 17th century and continued to influence the cartography of the region until the middle of the 18th century. Largely due to the enormous success of Hondius` Atlas, Le Moyne`s erroneous depiction of a large inland lake (Lacus aquae dulcis) from which the R. de May (St. John`s River) flows in a southeasterly direction was popularized. Chesapeake Bay, here called Chesepioock Sinus, and the area south towards C.S. Romano Hispanis are shown in their White delineations. The Indian villages of Paquiwok, Croatoan, and Wococon are named in the Outer Banks and several others along the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds. The map is extensively decorated with depictions of Indian villages incorporated in the title cartouche, a Floridian king and queen and Virginian natives in a canoe taken from De Bry, wildlife including a wild turkey, ships, sea monsters and a superb compass rose. French text on verso. 19.1"" W x 13.5"" H A nice impression with full original color, light overall toning, minor color offsetting, and a crease adjacent to centerfold.

Trachtenbuch: Darin Fast Allerley und der Furnembsten Nationen die Heutigs Tags Bekandt Sein, published in 1577. Weigel`s encyclopedia of costumes included over 200 plates depicting people and costumes from around the world, with plates by Jost Amman. 6.8"" W x 11"" H A nice impression on heavy paper with light toning and soiling.
