"The Memory of The Dead" Markieviez (Casimir Dunin) A Programme from the First Production in April, 1910 of The Memory of the Dead - a Romantic Drama of '98 by Casimir Dunin Markievicz which featured his wife Constance de Markievicz in the lead role of Norah Doyle. Performed by The Independent Dramatic Company at the Abbey Theatre, April 14th, 15th & 16th, 1910. The cast list includes Constance de Markievicz and Seaghan (Seán) Connolly as Michael Doyle. Also on the programme is Mary. A Comedy, in 4 Acts by Casimir Dunin Markievicz (First Production).Constance Markievicz was second-in-command in St. Stephen's Green during the 1916 Rising and later made history as the first woman elected as MP to Westminster. Her fellow cast member Seaghan (Seán) Connolly was a captain in the Irish Citizen Army and is recorded as the first rebel fatality of the Easter Rising. Included in the cast of Mary. A Comedy, in 4 Acts is Máire Nic Shiubhlaigh, the leading Abbey Theatre actor and Cumann Na mBan member who was in Jacob's Biscuit Factory in 1916, under the command of Thomas MacDonagh. An extremely scarce item which nicely illustrates the crossover from the Irish Cultural Revival to the Easter Rising. Printed at The Tower Press, Dublin. 3pp. (1).
