CONDITION REPORT: Visually this piece looks to be in good order. However closer inspection suggests old extensive professional restoration. The inside has clearly been over sprayed in places and there is evidence of marks indicating restoration. Our feeling is that the piece has been broken into several pieces and restored probably some 20 years ago. The gilt rim has clearly been repainted. The restoration is not significantly discoloured and the item, as stated, looks good from a visual point of view.

Lot 175

A Continental porcelain inkwell stand, probably French and depicting Chinese sportsmen and acrobats. Width 6 ins. CONDITION REPORT: There is no makers mark as far as we can see. The item is in generally good condition. The two detachable pots appear to be in good order. The central carrying handle is slightly off centre and looks to have been repainted as does the whole of the top of the piece. We cannot see that this is covering any restoration, however the whole of the top inner section has certainly been painted over as has the outside edge. Whilst it doesn't appear that this is covering restoration it would probably be safe to presume that it is particularly if you are buying blind.

Lot 329

An Edwardian silver cream jug, in the George III style, helmet shaped, London 1904, 185 grams. CONDITION REPORT: Generally in good order with no restoration or engraving. Hallmarks clear. The silver is reasonably heavy gauge around this point however a silversmith would need to repair this buckle.

CONDITION REPORT: The wine funnel is generally in reasonable condition. There are no major areas of problematical damage. The proud lip to the underside of the sieve is misshapen but this is not an issue and not visible when the item is together. The base has one or two small dents but nothing of any significance and the spout is in good order. The hallmarks are slightly rubbed but visible and easy to read. The overall weight of the piece is 160 grams.

Lot 1080

Width 35 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This chest of drawers is in extremely good order. It could be used or resold in its current condition without the need for any repair or restoration. The drawer fronts are all in good order. The bottom drawer has evidence of three old veneer cracks and possible replacement of sections of cockbeading and two small veneer repairs. These have been done perfectly well and do not detract from the appearance of the piece. Other than minor scuffs and scratches the item is really in extremely good order.

Thomas Addis Emmet (1764-1827) was the second son of Robert Emmet, physician to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and elder brother of Robert Emmet. He was an Irish American lawyer & politician, a member of the Irish revolutionary group The United Irishmen in the 1790s and Attorney General of New York State 1812-13. The Boston Port Bill was the British response to the Boston Tea Party of 1773. It was designed to secure Britain`s jurisdiction over her American Dominions. The Port of Boston was effectively outlawed and blockaded by the Royal Navy. This resulted in economic & social hardship, leading to the American War of Independence (1775-1783).
