A 19TH CENTURY COROMANDEL LADY'S DRESSING BOX, the interior with mirror and an assortment of silver-plate topped jars and bottles, with base drawer, lock stamped S. Mordan & Co, sold with bill of sale, dated 1864, from William Leuchars. 33cm wideThe absence of a Condition Report does not imply that a lot is without imperfections. Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale. Some losses to the brass inlay and some ripples and blisters to the surface of the lid. Hinge is in good order and top closes flush. Three losses to the base drawer front. The interior generally in good order but lacking some accessories. Generally in need of a polish and tidy-up but a good quality item.
A late 18th century George III period mahogany linen press; the cornice above two panelled doors enclosing slides and further over two half-width and two full-width graduated drawers, shaped apron and on French-style slightly splaying bracket feet (135cm wide x 60cm deep x 204cm high)The doors aren’t warped, nice colour. Some scratching around the frieze area and it is noted that some small mostly 1cm sections of veneer have been replaced around the front carcass. There is a piece of tape on the bottom of the right hand foot from the front masking damage. On the left hand top side there are two 4cm sections of veneer away which would need to be addressed. There is some small stains to the right hand side although nothing dramatic. The cornice looks quite good and upon opening the doors the carcass is painted with a red ochre and retains what looks like the original slides, although the base and the top slide is now missing, (only three present). The drawers are oak lined and in our opinion a nice item but would need a little care to bring it up show room standards.
A circular Chinese porcelain blue-and-white dish; six-character mark of Daoguang and possibly of the period, the well finely painted with a complex roundel of three phoenix amongst ruyi and a central lotus, the underside matching (19.25cm diameter) Please note: there is an approx. 1cm hairline emanating from the rim that is only visible under ultra violet lightA firing fault to the glaze on the base (see image) otherwise in good order commensurate with age. The shape appears to be very refined and the decoration is very good. Upon speaking to Chinese experts several have said that the item is actually mark and period Daoguang, the item is not perfect there is an original firing fault on the back and underside which is visible on the images on the website. There is one other issue which is under ultraviolet light, a 1cm “hairline” can be seen emanating from the edge of the rim inwards (again stressing that this only really viewable under ultraviolet light and can’t be seen with the naked eye.
A large 19th century gilt-metal French Louis XVI-style chenet (in separate parts), the two neo-classical-style urns with flames, three ram's heads and monopodia supports leading down to pierced and blind friezes cast with further scrolling foliage etc. in the late 18th century manner (the item is adjustable) (approx. 208cm maximum width)
CORRECTION - ITEM IS WILLIAM IV PERIOD ASSAYED 1836 A good and heavy late George II period hallmarked silver hot-water jug of spreading baluster form; the hinged lid with a flower-head finial with a high arched handle with ivory insulators and the body decorated in relief with leaves etc., raised on conforming flower-head style foot, maker's mark B P, assayed London 1756 (22cm (highest point to tip of thumbpiece on handle, approx 705g)
A 19th century marble-topped pier cabinet; two glazed doors below a gilt frieze decorated with scrolling foliage and flanked by two outset corners with columns, the glazed doors headed with gilt roundels in relief, raised on plinth base (marble broken on the corner and cracked across the top) oval paper maker's label to back 'Kennard Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer, Appraiser & Undertaker 19 Grand Parade, St Leonards' (140cm widest x 35cm deepest x 108cm high)The marble is broken on the corner and cracked across the top (see image). Overall the piece is reasonable; there is quite a lot of scratching of paint away on the bottom of the plinth on the outset corners commensurate with age; there is some discolouration to the sides, on the left-hand return there is a little bit composition moulding away, similarly so on the top on the left hand top, approx. 1 inch away; the original velvet lining the shelves has lightened significantly with some staining, mostly to the top shelf, some of the central applied gilded decoration to the plinth is away, there are vertical paint cracks on the doors mostly to the upper section of the frame; there are pieces of applied moulding missing in places, in the Auctioneer's opinion this would not take too much to rectify. The item came privately.
A very fine 19th century Aesthetic Movement circular satinwood, amboyna cross-banded and walnut occasional table, the circular top exhibiting fine specimen wood marquetry decoration of a swallow in flight above fuchsias and a small butterfly, with three angular faux-bamboo satinwood legs united by a circular dished walnut undertier (41cm diameter x 52cm high)The item has been entered privately and appears in very good overall condition with no major problems noted; the marquetry on the circular top (although a little faded commensurate with age) is very fine and is on satinwood with an amboyna edge with further stringing. The under shelf appears to be very sturdy and is original with a good and high configuration; legs are well and no breakages or restorations noted. Some scuttering and scratches to lower part of the leg commensurate with age. The legs all appear to be original; there is an historic approx.. 3-inch crack to the underside of the pine disk which also runs on slightly further; one further crack is also noted; also 2-inch crack to the circular under tier emanating from the edge of the rim to where the bowl actually starts to deepen. The top exhibits minor surface scratches which the Auctioneer advises could probably be sorted with a minimum of effort by a professional restorer.
A late 17th century oak chest; the two half-width over three-width graduated drawers with geometric mouldings and Dutch-style drop handles, panelled sides and raised on stile feet (98cm wide x 55cm deep x 88cm high)It is noted that the chest is of a nice colour and patination generally. There are some scratches and knocks commensurate wth age particularly noteworthy there are some scuffs and old paint splashes to the lower moulding just above the stile feet which are recessed. The item has panelled sides. The handles although period in style are obviously later as are the escutcheons in the auctioneer’s view. Drawers look to be elm lined with some historic woodworm and appear to retain mostly the original locks with the bottom two full width drawers possibly later locks. The back appears good with some again historic woodworm and scuffing etc., (see images).
A good 18th century North Country-style oak food cupboard of slim proportions; outset cornice above a frieze inlaid with a central horizontal lozenge motif flanked by two further smaller oval inlaid motifs and above two panelled doors with central panels having separated vertical uprights, the base section with two half-width drawers with kite-shaped escutcheons, two panelled doors below and raised on front bracket feet (with panelled sides) (106cm wide x 47cm deep x 198cm high)The top section comes away from the base section and is in two parts. We think this is stained pine sided although it looks original and doesn’t detract etc. The doors appear to be quite straight. The handles may be original but it looks like in some places they have been reaffixed. The item is in good general overall condition although it is noted that the rear of the left hand return moulding at the top has suffered damage (see image). Generally scuffs and scratches etc., commensurate with age. The piece looks quite original overall with a nice pleasing colour and patination with scuffing noted to the bracket feet at the front and stiles at the back. The piece has come from a private Estate and has been much admired at the saleroom.

Palitoy Star Wars Jawa with rare Vinyl Cape on 12-back card. One of the rarest carded Star Wars figures in existence on this card variation - less than 10 known in the world. Our most exciting toy find in 15 years trading as Toy Auctioneers. Card is slightly curved but could easily be flattened by somebody with the correct knowledge. Colours of the card are fantastic and the bubble has not suffered any yellowing - probably because this item appears to have been sitting in a bin bag with other figures since it's purchase in the 1970's.Last example to sell at auction in the UK made £21,600 in 2017. NO RESERVE !!!!
