The circular instrument is painted black, and the dial has a dark face with clear white markings registering 0 to 8,000 meters. The cellulose has yellowed with age, giving a tinted appearance to the dial. The dial is signed D.R.P. Hohenmesser ausgegichen. No. 7152. The metal case retains a paper inspection chart at the top. The instrument would have originally been fitted in the control car, by three bungees, two of these remain. A screw knob, rotates the face into the correct position. Collection of early 20th Century cigarette lighters and one post 1945 miniature lighter. Three lighters. The first, a brass circular lighter (nearly 5cm in diameter x 1.5cm deep), mounted on one side is a small medallion showing the Lebaudy airship “Liberty” flying over a stone arch bridge, on the reverse is mounted a French 25 centime piece (c1914) (nickel has been worn off the coin). GC for age. The second lighter is a machined tube of aluminium alloy (5cm tall x 2cm diameter) with a screw lid. On the front is scratched a crude representation of an airship below which are the letters L71 (with a continental seven). L71 was one of the Super Zeppelins appropriated by the allies as war reparations, and allocated to the British. Flown to Pulham by a German crew in 1920, she was never flown by the British, and scrapped in an emergency to make space for a damaged R36. Some damage to cap from a scrape (may have been there since new as the knurled band appears undamaged). The third lighter is a streamlined item representing the Graf Zeppelin, (11 cm long x 3cm) stamped on the empennage “LZ 127”. Appears to have been made of silver plated brass, the device pulls apart to reveal the wheel mechanism and wick. there appears to be some rust towards the rear. Also there is a miniature Zippo style lighter, made in Japan with a picture of the Hindenburg (showing red tail insignia with a white disk) labelled “Zeppelin, Germany, 1907”. See Plate 25

1953 Daimler Conquest 2.5 ‘Genuine Barn Find’ Reg.no. PYC 900 Chassis no. D82999 Engine no. 75133 This Daimler was recently re-commissioned following 20 years of storage in a barn in South Gloucestershire. Originally supplied by a Daimler dealer in Wells, Somerset, it was owned by a Clevedon surgeon, after which it has had only four local owners, the last of whom owned the car for 35 years. The re-commissioning involved fitting a new Lucas heavy duty battery, cleaning the pugs and priming the petrol pump and the engine now runs well. The four speed ‘pre-selector’ gearbox works perfectly and our vendor describes the car as ‘running as she did 60 years ago’. During the last 20 years a replacement dynamo, fuse box and cut out have been fitted. The bodywork and panels all appear sound and remarkably rust free. The interior is all original and the green leather upholstery is very good considering the age. The only significant item which requires replacement is the internal bonnet release cable. Further re-commissioning is recommended in respect of cleaning the brakes etc., but this presents a very straightforward opportunity to start classic car motoring without major expenditure. It comes with original jack, starting handle, wheel brace and all log books, plus the current V5c. Estimate: £2,500 – 3,000 Bidding is taking place on our sister site i-bidder.com, click here to bid
