A Victorian velvet bonnet reputedly to have been owned by the Royal Family. In the middle1800s a nursemaid to the Royal household was gifted a bonnet that had belonged to Princess Alice who was Queen Victoria’s third child and second daughter. Princess Alice went on to marry the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine. The bonnet was kept in the same family for generations until it was sold at auction in the 1960s and bought by Yesterday’s World Museum. When the museum closed a few years ago the bonnet once again returned to private hands. It is a beautiful shade of purple, a delicate but well kept and precious item of Royal memorabilia.
