Joseph Hallam Hawksworth (1827-1908) - a mid 19th century Victorian sketchbook containing seventy original pencil landscape drawings by Hawksworth. The original sketches depicting forest scenes, landscapes and rivers. All unsigned, with locations around Sheffield identified in pencil including Sudcliffe, Blackhook etc. Bound in full crushed morocco, rebacked at the turn of the 20th century with gilt spine reading Drawings - J. H. Hawksworth 1854, gilt edges. Ink inscription by the artist & dated 1854 to ffep. Pencil inscription to rear endpaper 64 leaves, 71 drawings. Complete with 1897 letter from the curator of the Weston Park Museum (known by the Sheffield City Museum and Mappin Art Gallery until 2006), the letter addressed to the underbidder at Msr. Alan Minter was the reigning middleweight champion of the world until he met 'marvelous' Marvin Hagler at Wembley. Hagler destroyed Alan with 3 rounds but the fight will be forever remembered for the fans reaction to Minter's defeat with chairs and bottles thrown into the ring. Despite this defeat to one of the greatest middleweights of all-time, Minter was a fine champion and part of the British boxing Hall of Fame.
