The second item is a description of the construction and use of Maissiat's improved theodolite and other surveying instruments, with a short history of the mariner's compass. A copy in the Smithsonian is dated 1817 but is apparently otherwise identical.

A BOXED CENTURY 21 TOYS PLASTIC FRICTION DRIVE CAPTAIN SCARLET SPECTRUM PATROL CAR, No.9, appears complete and in very good condition with both figures, fin for roof, four missiles, luggage and other items (the black item (radio?) appears to have some minor damage with a piece broken off but present in bag) all sealed in a plastic bag, two further missiles are situated behind the headlight lenses, decals in very good condition, friction motor works fine, length approx.25cm, base marked with the JR logo, No.9 and Made in Hong Kong, with original leaflet, box complete with packing piece and is very good condition with only minor damage, marking and wear to lid, the words 'Missile Firing' have been crossed out in felt tip pen
A heavy hallmarked silver salver of flowerhead shape and raised on four bun-style feet' maker's mark of Collingwood, 46 Conduit St, W, assayed London 1928 (25.5cm diameter, approx.663.8g)Condition Report: This is a fine quality and heavy item, no major problems. Held up to the light there is a very minor line indentation of (1-1.5cm) visible when reflected. The hallmarks are very clear as is the 'Collingwood' mark to the underside. Minor surface scratches commensurate with age which would probably polish out.
An early 19th century George III period mahogany knee-hole desk - the reeded edge top above recessed fielded panel door enclosing a shelf flanked to the left by five small graduated drawers with Anglesey kite-shaped escutcheons and cast-brass swan-neck handles and four further, larger graduated drawers to the right, raised on bracket feet, with two large polished brass side carrying handles (99.5cm wide x 50.5cm deep x 71cm high) Condition Report: The two side panels look OK but the middle panel looks as though it has been replaced at some stage but not 'out of place'. The top evidently has a dark oval mark in the centre and the outer edges are much lighter/sun bleached. Some scratching, old water marks and a historic split in from the left-hand side (10cm from the back). Looking from the front the brass carrying handle has faded significantly and the Auctioneer's opinion is in need of a re-polish. The left hand side is slightly darker. There is a reeded edge top with a small vertical split but otherwise OK. Fading also evident on the front and on the left-hand bank of four smaller drawers the base drawer has a full width crack across the middle behind the handle. The central cupboard door opens to reveal a central shelf. The item is raised on bracket feet which look OK minus a few scuffs and knocks etc. commensurate with age. Auctioneer's opinion is that the piece does require work as outlined. Condition commensurate with age and usage.
A fine and modern mahogany-cased limited edition (14 of 80) eight-day bracket clock; the handle ornately modelled and engraved as two open-winged dragons above an enamelled gilt and metal-mounted armorial and a 6.5" brass dial with silvered chapter ring detailing 'The 800th anniversary of the Mayoralty of the City of London - Garrard, London' above the 6 o'clock position, the hinged, glazed door with further brass mounts, the rear door with pierced mesh sound hole and opening to reveal an elaborate engraved movement signed F.W. Elliott with Whittington & Westminster strikes (striking on a total of nine bells), together with original mahogany wall bracket (minus left-hand moulded return), also mounted with enamelled shield-shaped armorial (37cm high to tip of vertical brass handle)Condition Report: wall bracket - the armorial and gilt metal applique is the same as on the clock. Square-on view...the right-hand return moulding is not present although could be rectified easily. The clock - appears in good honest original condition, the item has come privately from a client in central London. The gilded movement is engraved to the plate and also exhibits slow/fast adjustment to the top centre. Although without key the clock appears to be in good working order. It is noted there are some very minor aspects of paint/varnish away mostly from areas of the moulding and very minor pinhead style piece away where the left-hand return moulding meets the front moulding. The dial is in good order and have a 'strike silent' lever to front of the dial. The gilded back plate also has a chime lever but it appears the striking mechanism requires attention. The clock bears the paper repair label from Churchill Clocks, Midhurst, West Sussex (April 1994).
An unusual early/mid 20th century brass mounted and glass table lamp; vase-shaped wrythen glass main body with internal bubbles as decoration, clear glass flowerhead base onto a round, circular brass support with four unusual curling legs, on reeded circular brass plinth base (44cm high including electrical fitting)Condition Report: The base and top mounting appear to be quite oxidised and have dulled down significantly, the wire has been cut so will need re-wiring, under closer inspection of the glass it the item appears to be in good general order with no chips, cracks or restoration noted.
A highly stylised and unique large and heavy North West Persian carpet; profusely decorated and handwoven with a myriad of Persian symbols and designs etc. to include animals, figures, masks, stylised winged griffins, vases, Persepolis columns (centre), the two lower ovoid shaped blue ground vases with Persian inscription, all within a red ground border (378cm x 296cm)Condition Report: The item has been consigned privately. Overall no 'major' problems. Some minor fading and minor wear etc. Nothing too problematic, the corners appear to be in good overall condition and the ends and sides are also good and reasonable order.
A large and heavy early 19th century ormolu double inkwell (probably French) - seated winged central cherubic figure bearing two drumsticks, the hinged wells modelled as timpani-type drums (no liners), the base with swags and resting on four paw-style feet (20cm wide x 12.5cm highest point at drumstick)Condition Report: It is noticed that the gilding has dulled with age (to be expected) and upon inspection there are some dark spotting areas to the platform that the drums are sitting on and also on the drum lids - this may clean off. No damages are noted - all appears in good original order with no major breakages or problems noted. Looking front-on the left-hand drum at the rim at the front it is very thin and there is a tiny matchhead piece away, mainly visible from the inside of the drum once the lid has been opened. There is also a hairline which could superficial and cannot be seen on the outside of the drum. None of these minor issues detract from a very nice item indeed.
A tall mahogany mirror fronted cabinet (made up from three pieces of 18th century furniture); the dentil cornice above two shaped mirror fronted parcel gilt doors enclosing various adjustable shelves (one original now unmounted piece of 18th century glass sold with the item) above a lockable central section with cleated sides and opening to reveal pigeon and two 'secret' drawers, the lower section with two half-width over three full-width graduated drawers probably retaining the original brass swan neck handles, raised on bracket feet (110cm widest x 58cm deep x 219cm high)
