WW2 Royal Air Force Spitfire Spade Grip Recovered from Battle of Britain Crash Site, interesting example of the spade pattern grip which is missing its firing button. Stamped to the central column “AH 8272”, stamped to another section “AH 0 16068 ISS 4”. Attached to the grip is a paper label which states, “HAND GRIP FROM CONTROL STICK ON SPITFIRE, SHOT DOWN AT WOOLWICH DURING THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN. THE HOLE ON THE TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE IS FOR THE FIRING BUTTON FOR THE MACHINE GUNS WHICH WERE MOUNTED IN THE WINGS OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE ITEM WAS OBTAINED FROM THE MUSEUM OF WWII AIRCRAFT”. Generally good condition item, worthy of further research.
Rare WW2 British Airborne Forces B.S.A Folding Bicycle, very good example retaining much of its original field paint finish. Mostly all original parts. Marked to the front with Pattern Number 543076 and broad arrow stamp. BSA marked to the tube connecting to the seat. Original leather saddle. Fixing screw remains in good working order. In our opinion a very good example of a now very rare item of WW2 Airborne equipment. It is believed that 60,000 examples of these folding bikes were manufactured by the BSA between 1942 and 1945. They were famously issued to the British Airborne Forces who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and Arnhem later in 1944. They were issued these bikes as a way for the troops to quickly cover large areas of ground in a quiet manner as they were behind enemy lines. However many of the paratroopers found these cumbersome so abandoned them soon after landing. The bikes were held out in front of the paratroopers when they parachuted in behind enemy lines. Many famous wartime images can be seen of these bikes in use. We would advise all seriously interested bidders to view this item in person to satisfy themselves as to its condition. Sold not subject to return due to size and weight.
Large British Royal Standard / Flag, of coarse cotton material with printed Royal Arms and enforced edge. As seen flown at buildings when the Royals visit. An identical flag flew over Buckingham Palace during WW2.

Interior retains the original sweatband and officers style lining, this shows some service wear and the lining has come loose in places. One small crack to the patent top. Shako is housed in its original metal storage tin with brass name plaque “Capt H Blaquier”. Overall a very good example of a scarce item of headdress from the Indian Army. The 26th regiment of Bengal Native (Light) Infantry mutinied at Mean Meer in May 1857 during the Indian Mutiny. They were massacred at Ajnala 30th July - 1st August 1857, with 42 members of the regiment being blown from the guns at Lahore.

Illustrated Priced Catalogue, title in red & black with decorative border, illustrations, hinges weak, Paris & London, 1882, 8vo & 4to (2)⁂ The Beckford sale was one of the most famous of the nineteenth century. Beckford's financial resources had diminished and he was forced to sell Fonthill and much of his collection. The sale was entrusted to Christie's and catalogued but before it took place John Farquhar, a Scottish gunpowder-manufacturer, bought the whole estate together with its contents. He then put the contents up for sale at auction with Phillips the following year. Choice items from Beckford's library and art collection had already been removed to his new residence in Lansdowne Terrace, Bath, and were inherited by his son-in-law the 10th Duke of Hamilton, and later sold as part of the Hamilton sales in 1882 and 1884.The first item comprises the entire contents of Fonthill offered at auction over thirty-seven days from 23rd September to 29th October, comprising the library, furniture, pictures and prints, but with the catalogues bound in chronological order according to the day's sale not according to subject matter.

When he died his collection of thirty-eight pictures was bought for the nation (for approximately £60,000) and formed the basis of the National Gallery, founded in 1824 and first situated in Angerstein's house at 100 Pall Mall. It included Rubens' Rape of the Sabine Women, Claude's Embarkation of the Queen of Sheba, Rembrandt's Woman taken in Adultery, and Sebastiano del Piombo's Raising of Lazarus which Angerstein had bought from the celebrated Orléans Collection in 1798 for 3500 guineas and which became item No.1 in the National Gallery Catalogue.
