The first Russian banknote, 1 Ruble, stamped with the Qajar seal for use in Iran [Russia, dated 1898] single loose banknote, printed in blue and red, valued at 1 Ruble and stamped on the reverse with the Shir-o Khorshid Qajar emblem over the top of the Russian Eagle monogram, small tear to lower edge and a brown stain to outer edge, overall bright example, c. 90 by 150 mm. This item is both of general numismatic and more specific Iranian cultural interest. This is the first Russian bank-note ever issued, to the value of 1 Ruble, and bears the Russian Eagle to the left and monogram to the right upper side of the note. In the nineteenth century, after signing the Treaty of Turkmenchey that ended the Russo-Persian War, trade routes and commerce began to grow between the two countries, gradually making Iran the largest country to trade with Russia. The ports between Baku and the Caspian docks in Iran, together with railways connecting the Caucus to Tifis meant that the exchange of goods was thriving by the end of the century, resulting in this unusual recognition of Russian currency in Iran. This banknote was stamped with the Qajar emblem making it legal tender in Iran. Although this particular banknote was reprinted and used until 1916, it's use in Iran was limited to the turn of the century.

The engagement took place in the Abdin Palace in Cairo on 30 March 1938, followed by a wedding (also in Cairo) on 23 April the same year. This was the Shah's first marriage, and the wedding was a political one intended to strengthen the ties between the Iranian and Egyptian courts, attracting controversy in the process as it united a Sunni royal Princess with a Shi'a royal Crown Prince. The couple had a daughter together, Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi, before they became estranged and eventually divorced in 1948.
