Otherwise this is in good order throughout. On the folding leaf snuff bottle one leaf has a small nibble and a small chip. There is a small brown vein near the top on a branch and this has a natural flaw crack. There is a small white bruise mark to the underside of one petal approximately 3 mm in length and 1 mm wide. The metal mounts are highered but intact, there are some signs of rust to the neck of the embossed base. The plaster of paris weighting in the embossed base is disintegrating but is 85% intact. There is no burner to the top, but only a housing to take such an item.

The top row numbers to the keys all appear intact however on the bottom row the second left, first right and third right numbers are vacant. The mechanism does work but inspecting the interior it is very oiled and greased and inside the till drawer there are one of the missing numbers. The interior working of the register is numbered 151822. There is also a cast number to the interior of the bowed fRont which IS L822. The black plate top and the front have numerous surface scratches. Overall on first appearance this is a rather attractive item. The counter on the underside of the lid works occasionally. Lot 1379

A large walnut and mahogany snuff shoe, mid 19th century, with inlaid lace holes and piquet work seams, the heel and sole with further inlaid decoration. Length 14.5 cm, height 5.9 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This is a very nice example of its type. The lid fits snugly to the body and although there is a very slight gap at the rear of the shoe the seal is good. There are some small minor knocks around the sole at the front but this is nothing in our opinion that detracts from its value. The underside of the sole has a scuff mark at the tip of the shoe but again in our my opinion it is not detrimental. A tactile item once placed in the hand. If there was any flaw one could say that it is slightly faded in colour.

Lot 1380

Length 9 cm, height 5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This is a nice colour throughout. There is an old 2 cm long fine crack to the rear of the shoe. There is a very small dark blemish to the right side of the lid where it joins the hinge and also a very old but faint crack running along the front of the lid just above the hinge but this is really only viewable when using a jeweller's loop and actively looking for faults. There is a piquet work brass stud missing from the centre cross upright of the love heart but again one would not notice this on initial inspection. There is a further piquet work brass stud missing on the underside of the sole on the square. This is much more noticeable than the previous one mentioned. Again a very tactile item once placed in the hand.
