Lot 279

A small Chinese perfume bottle, decorated with peaches and with Artemisa mark. Height 74 mm. CONDITION REPORT: The base of the stopper has a few small nibbles and a very fine firing crack but nothing too sinister. Other than that the stopper is in good order. Although it has an Artemisa leaf mark it is not 18th Century and is certainly a 20th Century item. The decoration is printed. There are no obvious faults to comment on.

Lot 606

A French terracotta figure of a young female, 19th century, modelled seated upon a water fountain and holding a jar in her lap, incised signature L. Pipet and impressed and seal marked verso "Cuite Gefeu" and numbered 215. Height 44.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This figure has been broken in two across her waist and re-attached. There is a crack across her left arm from this break. This figure appears to have been in strong sunlight as the decoration is faded and rubbed throughout. There is a small drill hole to the rear of her right arm just above the elbow (possibly an expansion hole). There are some small faggots by her left hand one of which has a chipped tip. The base has two vacant holes where once a label giving her title would have been attached. Her left foot has a chip on the underside of three toes and the pad of the feet. Viewed from above it is only the middle toe which looks to be damaged with a small chip to the toenail. However, given these faults, this still remains a rather attractive item.

Lot 98

The lamp is in good working order and currently illuminated in the saleroom.

Lot 101

A Steam Punk inspired desk lamp, created from an early 20th century electrical transmitter/gauge, with adjustable brass reading lamp. Height 54 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This item is of very recent construction, straight from the manufacturer (these items and similar items in the sale are produced by a local gentleman as a hobby). The lamp is in good working order and currently illuminated in the saleroom. There are vacant holes in the top of the item where it has been adapted into a lamp but it is all part of the manufacturing process.

Lot 1020

A gilt metal door porter, 19th century, modelled as a bear and cub standing beside a beehive within a Gothic type ruin with sunflowers and foliage, handle surmounted with the Prince of Wales feathers, height 22 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The door porter is 22 cm high, 13.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm deep. This appears to be in good condition throughout. There are black marks throughout the item but we are unsure whether this is a fault from manufacture or just an accumulation of dirt. Overall it is an attractive example of its type.

Lot 104

A Jaeger Le Coultre "Embassy Red" Atmos clock, circa 1969, the brass case with red faux marble front and side panels, the base with start/stop lever, the brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, all in a plush lined and fitted presentation case. Clock height 22 cm, width 17 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This item comes complete with an outer carry case and its original cardboard box packaging. The glass appears in good order to the front and right hand side panels, the left hand side panel has very tiny 3 mm nick to the centre of the panel which can be viewed in the correct light with the naked eye and also felt with a finger nail. There appears to be some very minor pitting to the brass lacquer on the rear right hand of the base and up each of the sides, whether this is the lacquer deteriorating or not I am unsure. The vendor assures me that this item has resided in either the spare room or attic for many years as neither him or his siblings desire it. The faults mentioned are in my opinion very minor. The outer presentation case appears to be in good order throughout with only very minor tarnishing to the brass clasps.

Lot 1054

After the Antique, a carved serpentine marble sculpture, "The Dying Gaul", 19th century, his unsheathed sword and scabbard beside him, his shield beneath on a textured ground and polished oval base. Width 73 cm, height 40 cm, depth 34 cm. CONDITION REPORT: On first appearance all is intact however under close inspection one finds that the base is a separate piece to the remainder. The base has been broken into three pieces and a repair has been affected by use of a long rivet bar and some form of resin type adhesive. However, this is not a recent repair. His left leg has a large circumference crack around the top of his leg and a further circumference crack that has been repaired just below his knee. The pads and toes of his right foot have broken off and been reattached. The broken tip of his horn has a small chip. Given the faults mentioned this remains a very decorative item.

Lot 1099

A continental painted terracotta pixie, late 19th/early 20th century, wearing a pointed hat framing his mischievous looking face, his eyes looking skywards with a wry smile, sat cross legged, his green wings with a gilt band, indecipherable impressed mark and numbered 12246 with initials J.M. Height 35 cm. CONDITION REPORT: At first appearance the pixie appears to be in good order with no obvious faults however on close inspection the left wing of the rear has become detached at some point and has been restored. The green body is a rather uniform colour throughout however it is darker shaded on its left knee, right shin, the rear of its right thigh and also rear left buttock. Whether these are camouflaging restoration or simply reapplying flaked paint it is difficult to determine. Given the faults mentioned it is still an attractive and decorative item.

Lot 1191

A National brass cash register, bearing plaque "Stevensons, 2527053 345". CONDITION REPORT: There is no name plate to the top. The top row numbers to the keys all appear intact however on the bottom row the second left, first right and third right numbers are vacant. The mechanism does work but inspecting the interior it is very oiled and greased and inside the till drawer there are one of the missing numbers. The interior working of the register is numbered 151822. There is also a cast number to the interior of the bowed fRont which IS L822. The black plate top and the front have numerous surface scratches. Overall on first appearance this is a rather attractive item. The counter on the underside of the lid works occasionally. It currently reads 00849. We think this item will still need professional attention.

Lot 1276

A Victorian walnut Canterbury, with three apertures, fretwork sides, single drawer and raised on turned legs terminating in castors. Width 61 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The Canterbury is structurally very sound. There are no loose joints. The fretwork is all in good order with no losses. The spindles are all intact. The drawer slides as it should. The colour is generally good and other than very minor marks and old veneer nibbles the item is in very good order and has its original castors.

Lot 1497

An 18th century oak box settle, with panelled back, hinged seat and raised on stile feet. Width 107 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This box settle has plenty of character. Given its naive nature it is difficult to determine exactly what and when parts may or may not have been replaced. When looking at the item the left arm has been replaced however this is a well patinated piece of wood and is in keeping with the remainder of the piece. There is a large split to the side of the rear right hand leg. A further aged bit to the rear right hand side leg. The back panel has a light patch which may have been caused by numerous backs resting upon it, however the rest of the panel is rather dark and may have been affected by smoke damage. Basically it is all intact with only very minor knocks, any splits are indicative of its age. The emailed images would give you a better idea. The back panel of the seat has signs of old woodworm, and similar to the rear of the left leg/support.

Lot 153

An Indian carved wood plaque of the Mother Goddess Durga, early 20th century, carved in relief, with eight arms each holding a weapon, standing above two further figures, flanked by scrolling foliage, height 45 cm, width 25 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Overall this item appears to be in good condition throughout with no obvious faults, cracks, chips or restorations visible. The wood appears a uniform colour throughout. Arms and digits all appear to be in good order again with no visible losses or restorations.

Lot 156

A Chinese carved and gilt wood group, early 20th century, carved with seated and standing deities and attendants, within a temple interior, a bamboo shoot growing to the right, and pierced fence to the foreground, height 24.5 cm, width 23.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This item appears to be in good order throughout with only minor rubbing and scuff marks to the foremost figure on the left. The remaining figures of the pagoda appear to be in good order. To the rear of the item the bottom quarter is slightly rubbed and scuffed but nothing detrimental.

Lot 170

A Chinese part biscuit porcelain figure of Guan Yin, 19th century, standing in Vitarka Mudra holding a pearl, her robes in dark turquoise glaze with an aubergine sash, an acolyte standing by her feet with aubergine hair bun and clothing, all standing upon a Buddhist lion, height 30.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: All the fingertips on her right hand have been chipped off as has the item within that hand. The attendant by her side has been broken off and re-attached at the feet. Otherwise all is in good order with no further obvious faults, flaws or restorations visible.

Lot 221

A Japanese Kazaridana, Meiji period, each door and panel finely lacquered with lotus flowers in high and low relief, cranes, a preening hawk, a vase of flowers, ducks and geese, the grain of the panel used to great decorative effect, one handle formed as a fish, the other as a deity in a boat and with pierced fretwork decorative galleries, all on a simulated bamboo stand. Width 115 cm, height 135.5 cm, depth 31 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This item is generally in good structural condition, albeit a little dusty with some wear and tear commensurate with age. The top surface has various surface scratches and the top skin of lacquer is worn and erased. There is a 13 cm scratch to the top of the right hand side. The cabinet has numerous white paint spots throughout. The front edge of the top is worn away down to the natural wood. Hopefully these will be visible from our images. The right hand panel with preening bird has two splits to the woven effect mount. One directly at the bottom, approximately 5 cm long (if on a clock face at 6 o'clock) and the other to its right, approximately 11 cm long. The majority of the outer edges of the shelves and cabinet sections are worn down to the natural wood. Just below the two cupboard doors to the top on the left hand side, there is a small section of fretwork panel missing, the aperture for this bracket housing is 19 cm long and 7 cm high. I would guess that it is very similar to the shaped bracket below the upper right hand door decorated with birds and lily pads. The pair of doors on the bottom right hand corner appear to be in good order throughout, however, there is shrinkage to the left hand panel so that it does not sit perfectly flush within its frame. Also on the same door the upper left hand corner join is open. Each cabinet and drawer section shows signs of wear where the doors and drawers have been opened. Both sides have light surface scratches, however, on the left hand side there is a 13 cm diagonal crack in the top left hand corner. The pair of doors to the bottom left corner, the top of this section has a full length very fine split. Overall it does need some titivation, but you will end up with a fabulous piece of furniture.

Lot 230

A bronze figure of Yamantaka (Vajrabhairava) and his consort Vajravetali, 19th/20th century, his buffalo head with eight further heads behind and with thirty two arms, on sixteen legs, standing on eight Asuras, on a pierced lotus base. Height 36.5 cm, width 32 cm, depth 13 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: I believe this to be more 20th century not 19th/20th century. The tip to the central flame of the headdress is missing. The rear set of arms is loose to the main body and is incised with the number 9. There are small traces of verdigris throughout. On the high points on the rear of the head there are some small finials which are lightly polished but in my opinion not detrimental to the overall effect. The loose base is in generally good condition throughout however one Asuras (second in on the left hand side) has the tip of her headdress missing. The underside of the base is incised with the number 3. Given the small number faults mentioned this is still overall an effective looking item.

Lot 251

A set of three Japanese carved and stained wood wall brackets, late 19th century, two with relief lacquer and Shibayama type decoration, two depicting a bird on the roof of a bird house with a blossoming prunus tree, inset with coral coloured berries and mother of pearl flowers, and another with a carved bone butterfly above low relief lacquer iris and leaves behind a fallen log, all within a sunken shaped panel, the underside of the brackets decorated in gilt with butterflies, birds and flowers, 59 cm x 31 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One item has an 8 mm section of the moulded gilt frame missing from the bottom left hand corner. The gilding to the raised shaped border and outer edge are all rubbed, but not detrimental. There is an old split on the bottom left hand side near the pierced bracket, the coral coloured berries on the main panel have faded and are now a pink/white. Other than those faults mentioned the remainder appears to be in good order, no obvious further faults. It's matching partner bracket has a full length split (approximately 46 cm long) running from the top to the bottom, this can be seen on the left hand side of the panel. A small section of scroll is missing from the top on the left hand side. One of the ears holding the lower shelf to the panel has been off and has been screwed back on. The gilding is rubbed to the shaped interior border and the outer border of the main panel. The lacquer work mother of pearl inlaid pieces all appear to be intact and in good order. The individual wall bracket with iris and butterfly decoration has a full length split to the centre panel on the right hand side which continues down the right hand side of the remainder of the body. A small section of scrolling is missing from the upper right hand side. The gilding around the shaped interior rim and outer rim is 50% erased. The lacquer work and inlaid decoration to the main panel all appear to be in good decorative order. The splits in our opinion are age related expansion splits.
