The details of the ferocious lion head are chased with stippling on the nose, whiskers and mane. The lolling tongue and the teeth are separately made. Northern Wei Dynasty, Ca. AD 386-534.A Northern Wei dynasty terracotta ox depicted with head tilted upwards flaring nostrils, open mouth, and curved horns. The animal is modelled standing on a rectangular plinth; across his back is a detailed harness, reddish pigment on the surface to create the effect of a patched coat.
