Alan Minter was the reigning middleweight champion of the world until he met 'marvelous' Marvin Hagler at Wembley. Hagler destroyed Alan with 3 rounds but the fight will be forever remembered for the fans reaction to Minter's defeat with chairs and bottles thrown into the ring. Despite this defeat to one of the greatest middleweights of all-time, Minter was a fine champion and part of the British boxing Hall of Fame. This superb action photo is an original obtained directly from the photo agency and shows Minter facing up to Hagler in this epic title fight. In the manner of Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950), an Austrian cold painted bronze figure "Hands Up" with carved ivory head and raised on an onyx stand, signed to the rear. Overall height 23 cm. NOTE: This item has been assigned an ivory exemption certificate number 5XUS6ZZX (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The bronze is structurally sound with no repairs or restoration. The ivory head is free from any chips or cracks. The main body of the figure does have some losses to the cold painting. There are slight nibbles to the finger ends. The rear of the right-hand facing arm has losses to the cold painting above the elbow area and also to the front in the elbow crease. There are other minor nibbles to the main body of the piece and the bottom edges of the dress. The calf area and ankle have losses also. The onyx base has minor nibbles around the foot rim. The piece is not signed Lorenzl but does have markings on the circular bronze base to the rear of the foot.
